Some thoughts on The Garrett Searcher, Equipment, & value of Experience

Was reading the Searcher this morning. Noting what people were finding & with what machine. Whats interesting about this sport is someone with little experience & a break in model can come across a great fine. Even while hunting with a mentor with better equip. who's to say who will come out with the best fine.

On equipment, I use 3 different Garretts. It depends on where I'm going to hunt, and what for as to which one I'm going to take. My least expensive Garrett has found my best find this yr. My trusty 1500 most coins.

On experience A female coach lost a pretty nice ring on a soccer field this summer. Off and on a couple of guys spent some time hunting for it. These guys are good. One day one of em had to take his young son with him. And he eyeballed it !!! Try to explain to your wife why you need a thousand dollars of equip. after that. But

A veteran hunter will put more and better targets under his coil by sabby. So I think the most important is a good place to hunt Next is experience, Then Equipment, And then ya just gotta have some Luck ! Thats the wild card.

Well said. Research is the key to finding a good place to hunt.:detecting:

Putting more Lucky wild cards in your hand has to do with Persistance and time in field? Maybe doing some good deeds? First coil over the find? Spidey sense?
whatever it is, you are right about this being an interesting sport!

I have always given one answer whenever I see a post on "your best tip"-and that's to use 3 detectors while you're hunting! Your choice of an electronic metal detector and 2 God-given ones-your eyes. The only time I look at the searchcoil is when pinpointing. I have found teeny gold chains, cash, rings, marbles, etc. while scanning with my eyes near the search area. Scanning should be automatic.

All good tips and ideas! Now if it would quit
rainin and neing lousy weather id put them
to use!!!!! i agree with all of you guys and
the points made altho i never tried slingshots
idea of not looking at the coil .. thats a new
one on me .. maybe someday Ill ahve tips to
share

Your ability to spot a target really increases after a little bit of dirt fishing experience. I don't get out very much like some of the rest of the members of this forum, but even with cataracts, I spot stuff on the ground that younger people than myself walk right by. Metal detecting really focuses the eyeballs on what's on the ground. It's second nature and that doesn't mean you walk around looking at the ground and bumping into things either. You just seem to notice more things than you did before you started this hobby. Things that are out of place just jump out at you if you're paying attention.
