Some things I think I know ( ? )

Dancer

One is It doe not matter what you paid for the machine or how High tec it is. The hunter still has to swing the coil over the target. In other words a Sabie hunter with a lesser machine will do better than a Lost soul with the best money can buy. Of course theres that stroke of luck that can smile on anyone.

Two is My best yr in clad was a little over $900 in coins Over 9,000 targets maybe a dozen Silver rings Not one piece of Gold! Best yr. in Gold 4 Rings & a cross, a little over 3000 targets. Only about $356 in clad. Now why is that? I think that maybe my fields have become so depleated that I'm digging anything I can hit. And there lays the Gold

Three When time is short and people keep wasting your time with questions. [What have you found etc.] I started using this "Hey, would you like to buy this outfit for a good price & a free half hr lesson" ?
Their intrust starts peeling real quick. This has saved me a lot of hunting time on the beach.

Four Ever follow Yourself ? You might find out your not as hot as you think. I've found some holes of mine that weren't so neat. And also I have found enough Treasure that I walked over the first time to make me wonder just how good a hunter I am.

Five It doesn't hurt to do a little Pro Bono Finding something for someone is always a good feeling. As a reward I've gotten from a back breaking hug to a couple of shots and a beer and once a $100. They all felt pretty good.

Well thats all I got for now. How abt you guys ?

I've had more people asking me what I was doing when I'm water hunting and it does take up quite a bit of time with some of them, but I try to focus on education with these folks. The younger kids are kind of rude, but most of the older adults are genuinely interested in our hobby. I tend to turn my back on them and act like I can't hear the remarks they make with my headphones on. I got a good tip from someone who talked to me about 30 minutes when I was getting ready to go home and hope to follow up on it.
A man who lives close to the area I water detect asked me about finding his wedding ring and first it was too cold in the water for chest waders and now that it has warmed up to the high 60's in the water, our schedules can't work out where I can go to his dock and try and find the ring. Maybe in the next few weeks with the temps finally getting where they are supposed to be, I can find it for him. I haven't asked for anything for doing this, but hope it generates some good will that will lead to other spots I can detect. HH

I try to be polite with everyone that asks "Finding anything". The results have been a couple of invites to come hunt their property. I am sometimes surprised at the things that I find on the second and even the third trip across a piece of property. I wonder how I missed that silver coin etc. Did I swing the coil too fast and not hear the weak signal or did I not get the coil over the target. I am willing to bet that we all miss something from time to time.

The weather has been quite unseemly this year and people haven't been out as much. Also, because of school break-ins the schools have been locked up fencewise in my area. In fact, one whole town that was my mainstay has all new schools rebuilt and gates securely locked with barbed wire over the top of the fences. I have switched back to the 9X6 coil instead of the sniper because I'm now trying to cover larger areas to find a few coins. We even have some schools where specified teachers are ARMED and a warning sign to that effect outside the school. And a couple of years ago, a high school principal told me that there were now fiber optics underground and that they were concerned about any digging in the area. Fortunately, I carried a small 6" thin screwdriver (most coins are surface) and he said I'd be fine.

I tend to stay off of school property unless it's no longer used. I have permission to metal detect an old school in the town where I go to the river, but haven't hit it in about a year.

Well, school will be out in a week, even then there are events and training going on all summer, so a fellow still has to be somewhat discreet. Its funny to see ones own tracks on the beach or in the dew of the grass for sure...I seldom grid, but when I get a coin ping, I pull an ever expanding circle in that area.
