Some sliver with my MX5, but...

[attachment 328670 image.jpeg]My grandpa was in hospice passing away and I had to go get some fresh air. I went to any area of town that is an older established neighborhood. Started hitting on a ton of memorial pennies. Found a 1919 Wheatie! Kept detecting an empty lot and wound a 1959 Silver Roosevelt. I then decided to walk to the corner where there was a brick sidewalk. After a couple junk finds, I hit big! Underneath a bunch of glass shards was this 1900 Barber Quarter. Beautiful condition UNTIL I saw where I nicked it moving the glass away with my digger! It's a learning experience but still very proud of my first ever Barber!

L.A.R.T...

I miss my grandpa greatly, sorry to hear about yours, they are special. It looks like the MX5 is working out for you, nice coins......congrats

I replied to your email to me and pointed out that the 'location' is most important thing after you have mastered the machine. Now all you need is the 6½' 5.3 Eclipse coil to give you more advantage in the close spaced trash. The MX5 has that uncanny ability to unmask with this small concentric coil. The bonus is that the 5.3 coil is lighter, separation is better and it gets about the same depth as the stock 9" spider coil. Those old brick sidewalks usually produce some neat targets and are plenty trashy, the 5.3 would help in those scenarios.

Did the same to the first and only "half dime" I've ever found. Was too anxious to recover. Knew better, particularly when it's a high silver signal. You have a great find just the same. Congrats!!

I forget i also found this cool Tootsietoy Wedge Dragster.

Congrats on the Barber quarter find. Is always exciting to find a "first". Sorry to hear about your Grandpa. My Grandpa passed away in 1990 and I sure do miss him a lot.

MX5 is a bad @€£ detector once you get used to it. Came down to selling it or my Xterra 705 in order to purchase the MX Sport. Because I had more deep silver finds with the MX5 and picked it up more often than the Xterra the minelab had to go. Not taking anything away from the Xterra 705, also a great detector, just the MX5 is a little hotter and faster for me to hunt with. Hoping the coils I have can be adapted to use on the MX Sport.
HH and Happy Easter

Beautiful finds L.A.R.T! I sold my MX-5 and deeply regret it now. I found it to be better than the MXT-Pro and always grabbed it over my other machines because it was so enjoyable and well balanced.
