Some silver on a nice day........:minelab:

Weather has been great here in Virginia!.. I didn't do much hunting during the summer so I guess I'll have to make up for it this winter.
Tuesday I did some hunting at an old fairground that's been pounded pretty hard. Recently I purchased an Excelerator 6 inch coil and have used it a couple of times at this old fairground to see if I could find anything in areas that had already been hunted. A two hour hunt produced two Mercs, one Rosie, several wheats and a clad dime. Two Buffalo nickels were found a couple of days before using the same coil..

Is the six inch coil good? As of right now I believe it will do pretty well, more hunting will be needed to give a good assessment of it's abilities. I do have an Excelerator 4.5 x 7 and it does really well and has put a lot of silver in my pouch in trashy areas...it's a great little coil..

Thanks for looking..........John

Sounds like those small coils are doing well for you. I love the SEF 6X8 on my Explorer SE and have been considering going even smaller. Especially interested in the 4.5X7. What is your opinion so far on the 6"DD vs. 4.5X7? Do you feel you will need/want both? I am also considering the Sun-Ray X-5. I had the S-5 on my Sovereign GT and was very impressed with it. WTG on your finds! GL and HH. Matt

Hi Mathias.............I haven't used the Excelerator 6 inch coil enough to give a good opinion on it yet...My basic reason for getting it was to see if I could squeeze out another inch or so in depth. The 4.5 x7 coil is a little narrower so my thinking on it is it will do a little better in super trashy places, the depth on the 4.5 x 7 is very good and like I said in my post it has pulled out a lot of silver in heavy trash for me.
Learning to use the small coils is key to success with them. Each one of the small coils that I have will stay in my arsenal. I'll probably say more about the 6 inch coil as I get more field time with it....

Happy hunting.........................John in Va...
