I've heard about this machine and it's unstoppable. Made in China it's nuclear powered and you need a backhoe to drag the beast around the beach. (the backhoe comes in handy for the digging too!) Maximum depth is around 8 ft. so nothing will be left once this baby shows up in Va. Beach. You all better pile in to Max's Learjet and head for sunny Florida.

Or it could be the basis of the next episode of 'Pinky and The Brain'. I can just see it, Pinky and The Brain go metal detecting and take over the world.
If it is the next big leap forward in metal detecting technology it still doesn't remove that most crucial part of our hobby, the human component. It will be interesting to see what the Mad Scientist has up his sleeve and I wish him the best of success with his new weapon.

SUMMARY
The present invention provides a metal detector for detecting objects that are composed of non-ferrous metals. The metal detector provides for a reduced rate of false positive responses to objects composed of ferrous metals. A preferred metal detector according to the invention includes a transmitter for transmitting a time-varying electromagnetic signal and a receiver for receiving a responsive time-varying electromagnetic signal produced by the metal object. The metal detector also includes an analyzer for determining the resistive and reactive components of the responsive signal as respective first and second functions of the spatial position of the detector. A module for determining and comparing rates of change of the first and second functions at one or more spatial positions is included. Preferably, when the rates of change are the first derivatives or slopes of the functions, and when these are of the same sign, a result indicating that the metal object is non-ferrous is provided by the module.
A preferred method for identifying with an improved degree of reliability a non-ferrous metal object versus a ferrous object comprises transmitting a time-varying electromagnetic signal and receiving from the metal object a responsive time-varying electromagnetic signal. The resistive and the reactive components of the responsive electromagnetic signal are determined as respective first and second functions of the spatial position of the detector, and the rates of change of the first and second functions at one or more spatial positions are compared. I have been hearing about this unit for the last 7 years. I will believe it when I see it! If it finally does get to the market it is going to blow away every competitor out there that is for sure. But be prepared to dig deep both in the sand and your pocket I am sure Hope it is finally going to happen!
