Some researching to pass the time ..

A little research is bound to pay off .... This is just scratching the surface of an old 1920's map I have that has hundreds of long gone one-room schoolhouses marked on it. I transferred and pushpinned the locations to my Google Earth map. It would take a lifetime to visit all of these spots, and the ones I have not marked yet.

That's the ticket to finding the goodies, great idea!

I went to 2 one room school houses when I was a kid and so did my Dad. Couple of things to think about, kids rarely if ever carried money to school. and the schoolhouse was used for more things than school. They were a gathering place sometimes even had Church Services in them on the weekend. Most events at the school rarely drew much cash in. In the county where I'm from there was a one room school house every other mile across the county .

Man I love this place, tons and tons of helpful advice, and great ideas, and been there and done that expericenies goes along way for fine tuning our metal detecting skills! Two thumbs up!

You are absolutely right. And I would never expect to dig-up a fortune at these places. Maybe an occasional stray coin or relic. And of course most of these spots are on private property now, so there is more to it than just walking in and hunting it. I'm just having fun finding these spots on the map. And maybe when most of my other spots are drying up, I can come back and do some more investigating.

Ditto McDave,

On historicalmapworks.com I found 1875 maps with homesteads, schools, churches and other community bldgs. I have located many places to hunt...like you said, more than a lifetime of hunting.
Most of it is on private property but some of the homesteads that are long gone are now in public parks. There is so much information available online now it makes our winter research much more enjoyable.
Good luck with your spots. May your winter research pay off big!

I found one of the schoolhouses on my old map. Looks like it's a hunting shack now. And I found out that it's owned by someone from down in the twin cities. Oh well .. still neat to see that it's still standing. Maybe I can track down the owner this fall when hunting season comes around.
