Some questions answered.

Hello everyone. I would like to tke this opportunity to answer a couple of questions that have been frequently asked here on the forum.

1. Q: Are the Tesoro detectors sold overseas better or different than those in the US?

A: With our numerous distributors and the respctive dealers for them, we provide a the choice of different decals for the same machines sold here. And this is why. When a customer buys a detector here in the states we (Tesoro) provide a lifetime warranty. The different distributors globally provide their own service and repair and hence a different warranty. Rather than fix a machine that was sold in the Czech Republic (for example) in England, the different model layouts and colors allows each distributor to handle only the machines they sell locally. Therefore, the different models may have a slight or even non-existent changes to funtionality or simply color changes. This gives both the US and foreign customers the best chance to buy the detector and have it serviced without crossing the ocean(s). It also keeps the prices relative to the all contries involved.

2. Q: Comapdre, 5.75" or 8", and what is the price change?
A: Larger coil and no price change, and it's still hardwired to the Control Housing.

Direct question to TesoroMD.
Q: When folks send in their machines to have the coil "retuned" to the detector, what are you doing? Adjusting pots?

I did ask one question but was never answered, I have a golden umax with the older tones. If I wish to have it upgraded to the new tones and have the machine checked out can that be done NOW or is the delay on the golden line affecting me from having that done also ?

So retuning the coil really is tuning it. The two wires that connect the Transmit and Receive coils act as a tuning fork. This is to have them at neutral, in-phase, or out-of-phase. This is retuning.

Second, the Golden. Ah the Golden. Ok, so let me start with what's happened, then we'll move on to the solutions. The issue that caused the stop of production of the Golden UMax was all but simple. With different components being obsoleted, the replacement components didn't produce the desired effect for the range in the tones. Programming and parts. So on to the solution. Finding a replacement for the replacement has been a struggle, and changing programming to match the new setup is also underway. Short story, do not send your Golden in until these issues are resolved, and I'll say it here, it will be soon. Soon = next 90 days.

I have a question that I've received different answers for and was curious if you can clear it up. On the Cortes, do you have to set the threshold if you hunt only in disc mode, or do you have to set is it just for all metal? I assumed you set it in all metal then silent seach when switched to disc mode.

WHAT? This phrase makes as much sense as "hummingbirds hitch rides on the backs of geese when they fly south."
Did you major in politics?
Listen, I do appreciate the fact that you tried to answer my question. At least this should lay to rest the notion some folks have that you add or remove turns of wire from an epoxied coil to retune it.
Thanks for responding.

Hi BillF,
Your question was:
"When folks send in their machines to have the coil "retuned" to the detector, what are you doing? Adjusting pots?"
TesoroMD has answered the question as it was put because to tune a coil to the detector you have to 'null' and 'phase shift' the coil receive signal by positioning a tuning loop inside the coil. This can also involve pealing off or adding part of a turn and Tesoro construct their coils to make this possible.

I think that the question you meant to ask was:
"When folks send in their machines to have the detector "retuned" to the coil, what are you doing? Adjusting pots?
The answer to that question, generally speaking, is "yes".

DetectormanUK, the second half of your post made sense to me, but I take acception to your statement of 'peeling off or adding part of a turn'. I've worked with potted coils for years, and that is what these are, epoxied into the coil housing. It isnt economically feasible to do such a thing. I've seen the video of Tesoro making coils, I'm sorry but I personally don't believe Tesoro makes their coils in such a way as to make it possible to do as you say.

Hmm, ok fair enough and thank you very much for the information. I thought there was something else afoot with the Golden such as a newer design with perhaps a GB or a little more juice to go deeper, maybe the Golden Umax II or something like that. Turns out to be something less exciting but still important to know. I sure hope that after you secure a replacement for the components that it will perform as good or even better than what is already in use. Been really kicking around the idea of getting another Tesoro and the Golden comes up in my short list of Tesoro wants. So does the Outlaw and Vaquero though.....oh yea, and I really miss my Tiger Shark as well! I really need to find a bunch of gold jewelry so I can afford to scratch that Tesoro itch I have caught lately. :wiggle:

Hi BillF,
Thanks for your comments.
My original statement:
"This can also involve pealing off or adding part of a turn and Tesoro construct their coils to make this possible."
should be amended to:
"This may also involve pealing off or adding part of a turn and Tesoro construct some of their coils to make this possible."
