Some Outlaw questions

Neil

Well-known member
I did a little reading up on the Outlaw and Im interested in getting one.

I read that some had problems with the retune switch or switching from all metal to disc? Is this still a problem, it seems it was on the earlier models and I haven't read any more about it.

Can a dealer mix and match on the coils you get with it or is the three coil package set at the factory? Id really like to try that 11X8 versus the 12X10.

Any comments on the Outlaws ability to pick up smaller gold like earrings/chains.....which other Tesoro does it compare to in this manner?

Thank you,
Neil

don't use AM so cant help you with that or the pin point button I do use the retune when needed. never had any problems with it.

I know mine has found silver bracelets and gold rings and coins.

dealers might do a coil swap you can just get the one coil the white donut coil that the cover falls off of if you don't want or need the 3 coils.

if you want a new B2 micromax then grab an outlaw

AJ.

I did the field test for Tesoro but they did not supply the Outlaw...Rusty Henry did. He thought that the report would be less biased if he supplied the detector rather than the company as he is a Tesoro dealer. My partially full and heavily edited field test is up on their website if you care to look at it...

I picked up a Outlaw at the beginning of this year, like yourself I read as much as I could about the Outlaw before my purchase. I haven't had any issues. I use the returned button when needed and pinpoint by xing. The Outlaw has good depth, discrimination and a pleasant tone. I have more than a few years swinging a detector and feel Tesoro did a good job with the Outlaw.:tesoro:

Just got mine yesterday and the button is a little weird. In no motion all metal it retunes like my pro pointer AT. In no motion it will sound off starting 1" away from the side of the coil and stay ringing until an inch off the other side of the coil. But when you go to the center of the tone and hit retune, It's quiet. Then when you go back over the target it sounds off in a way smaller area. On the donut for example if done right only sounds off when the target is under the hole in the coil they call "super pinpointing" and if you like this method is a pretty sweet feature. I haven't used it. Used to my compadre so I just x the target in disc with small sweeps like jiggles.

Also that button has two more functions in disc. If you only push it half way (there's a slight stop in the mechanism) it puts you into no motion all metal while it's pushed to that point. Then to super pinpoint, you can either push it in the rest of the way to retune then half release to go back into no motion all metal or keep it pushed all the way in for motion all metal where the threshold sound will retune itself.

The difference here is when in no motion all metal by using the switch it's slow retune which will retune the threshold more slowly, but when using the button in disc and fully pushing it, you are in fast retune all metal.
This may sound a bit confusing but some quick tests outside with a coin will make sense.

It takes a little time but it's actually a really cool feature and I can see how it can definitely be of service to me or others. In this way with the button it differs from the Bandido II, but everything else is the same.

I think I'm really gonna like this detector.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Has all the other detector manufacturers patented no motion pinpointing or Tesoro just can't figure it out?

I mean, I came from the "other detectors", and seriously, Tesoro is wasting their time with their attempts at pinpointing gimmicks. One of the things Jack never figured out I guess.

I think it works great. Plus it's nice to have so many modes.
No motion all metal
Motion all metal slow retune
Motion all metal fast retune
Disc.

its a Tesoro its beep dig not muck around with a red button and dig :bouncy: but each to their own and if you like what it does then double bonus :clapping:

AJ

Thank you Randy
I gave it a read and yes it does help a bit.

I love my Outlaw. I just swing away listening to the beeps and watching the birds. More relaxing to me than looking at a screen. I do have other VDI machines but seem to be grabbing the Outlaw. It's so light and simple to operate.

I do have to agree .
I only use all metal of any kind if there are really close targets and with my Deleon.
As far as my outlaw, compadre, Bandido, Vaquero, or Cibola, as long as you understand the center of a concentric (easiest in the 8" donut) then you can make smaller sweeps until you find the center on one axis then either set the coil down and rotate your body 90° and do the same or just push and pull for the other axis and get tighter until your beeping on both passes.

It can come in handy, but take practice time for no motion all metal or you'll get mad out in the field. Auto us OK because of the auto retune. But the no motion all metal can throw you off

The button pressed all the way in disc mode is the same as any pinpoint button on Tesoro... auto retune.
But you can just get smaller and smaller on the target (as long as it's coin and ring size lol) in disc and get right in the money (pun intended).
Just takes a bit of prsctice and a coin in some ground with no other metal.

Kind of like jiggling the coil.

If you watch AJ's video with his Cibola and the widesxan "Bigfoot" coil, besides him going off the end of the coil because it's DD, his "jiggling" motion it what I mean. With a concentric it just doing that on one axis (x) then either turning and doing it on the other (y) or just going forward and backward for the other .
Hope I didn't confuse you. But the button is a funny thing but not needed to have great hunts with the outlaw.
Beautiful machine
