Some more field time with the Relic

I hunted with the stock coil using Deep Mode with sensitivity at 60. Left every other setting accept iron volume alone. Set iron volume to 1 so I can hear the faint buzz. I was surprised to find as many non-ferrous targets as I did. This site is where I test new detectors. It's a Virginia Plantation that's loaded with iron. You have to listen closely for the really deep targets. Please use the supplied headphones. They provide superior audio. I found an old brass key, an early Militia button and several flat buttons. I will continue to pond this site in the deep mode. Please go very slow and keep the gain down to minimize ground noise. I will post some pics later in the week. Regards

George,
I'm wondering how deep mode works in the trash?
The ground here in AZ gets very hard after 6-8 inches so things just don't sink too deep here as they do in the wetter regions of the country. There may be a few spots here where deep mode may come in handy.
Have you had an opportunity to play around with the tone break feature much?
There was a post on another forum where a guy was having difficulty with square nails. Said he was digging a bunch of them as the Relic was not IDing them as a ferrous target. I have not had that problem at all. You? Thanks!

Dean

You can hunt in deep mode in sites loaded with iron. Run your iron volume at one. A lot of ferrous will respond with a low tone break. In my searching for artifacts in my soil a tone break of 39 never misses the kind of targets I look for no matter how small. There is no doubt when you go over a non ferrous target. Just check in pin point and if it sounds deep it usual is. HH

Thanks George!
I went out this afternoon and scored a few goodies in DI3. I will give your settings a go on Thursday at the same site and see how they run. I can see the benefit in running the tone break to 39 as (at least at this place) nothing good comes in below that. Thanks again!

That's the beauty of the platform..AUDIO..

The settings below 3 on iron volume is more than volume its a process of compressing the iron grunt down and allowing for the more rich high tone to be heard...

It's volume and also process..

Hats off to Alpers and his team!!

Sounds like some great digs Tex!!

Man I love reading about the relic and more of your guys' settings and finding within.
I love mine so far but only hunted 1.5 times with it and need more info and time on it.
Logging all these settings and the knowledge (like the iron volume conpression) for my next outing.
Got warm here for 2 weeks but it's cold again.
Weather should break here next week and I'll be out in the parks with the 5" I'm thinking!!

Or if it proves to not be too trashy where I go, I'll use the stock coil :)
That's one of the beauties... because it came with another lower rod, I just unplug, change, wind and replug!!
Thanks for sharing!!
