digging Civil War bullets. All this in a hunted out spot. Last Winter I received permission to hunt a small plot of private land close to a battle. I was informed by the owner that this site had been hunted for years by individuals and detectorist with the Historic Society. He mentioned the Historic Society had hunted it several times and said there wasn't anything left. Meanwhile other hunters scoured the site. He told me that whatever I find was mine because everyone else had their chance. It's about a 2 acre plot. I hunted North and South pretty slow and made sure I didn't miss any spots with good coil technique and plenty of overlap. I was hunting in auto sens because there is a lot of EMI there. I rejected 28 and down on the FE. Pretty much just eliminated the iron. I dug 20 pieces of lead on the first pass which took me several hunts. Then 2 weeks ago I hit the site going the other way (East and West) You can see that I dug 8 more pieces of lead. Some targets were in the 10 inch range. Some by iron too. As you can see the Etrac is a great relic hunting machine. Make sure you hit all your hunting sites in many directions. You WILL find more stuff!
PS: I'm not new to detecting but I am to relic hunting. I put the size of the bullets and lead for you Civil War pro's could tell me a little bit more about the lead. I do believe the little balls are either pistol or buck-n-balls? Also the giant pieces of lead seemed to be flattened canister shot? You tell me???
