Well, I set out to hunt a school that was built in 1900 and condemned in 1945. Turns out that after a 45 min drive the school has been fenced off and plastered with no trespassing signs. I noticed a small house behind the school so I thought I'd inquire as to who owns the property. A very grumpy old man answered the door. He says,
"what do you want"
(not lookin very good is it?)
"I was wondering if you might know who owns this school and surrounding property"
"I do"
(at this point I know I shouldn't even ask but I didn't drive all the way out here to just turn around... You never know right?)
"I was wondering if I might be able to swing my detector around for a while?'
"No way way in hell bud. I don't know what it is with you people... thinking there's some sort ****in treasure in that ****in school yard. That's why I put up all those no trespassing signs... (points) SEE!"
(Ok now it's time to walk away...but I can't bring myself to be the bigger person without a little jab)
"Yes I saw the signs sir... It's NOT trespassing if you have permission. Have a great life"
Sooooo... I drove back to an empty lot in my downtown area that I've been wanting to hunt. It's a corner lot that sits across the street from a house that was built in 1864. As I was walking on the lot I was looking for signs of a foundation that would indicate a house being there some time ago. To my surprise I located the foundation and even a few bricks that were half buried. I unburied the bricks attempting to date the property. Hmmm... not sure how many of you out there are familiar with masonry but bricks for about the past 90-100 years have been molded with three holes in them. This was done to cut down on shipping weights. These bricks had no holes. Just solid red brick. A good sign So I walked back to my car to retrieve my CTX, all the while drooling over that 1864 house across the street. Two weeks prior I had asked the property owner (who is in the middle of renovating) if I could hunt his yard. Guess what he said? Anyway... I got to swingin and bam... two steps from the car 1916 wheat. I continued to pull out 18 wheats, one merc, a token of some sort (any ideas?), a bicentennial quarter, an airborn pin (any ideas?), and a very interesting ring. It's huge! It's very heavy too. Just not sure what it's made of or when it was made for that matter. No markings inside the band or anything. I hunted for about two hours and called it quits. Still a ton on yard to hunt. I gotta tell ya I'm loving combined mode in an open screen. Fast on, deep off, ferris coin, auto sensitivity +3, gain maxed. Low and slow. I reeeeeeeally need me a 6" coil though.
