Hi all ...went to a new field last night which to start with was a repeat of my first day with the V3. I had to reduce theRX gain down to 3 to stabalise the machine to the point where it was possible to hunt. (I am using a very slightly modified version of the coin jewelry prog which set to 2.5 mhz single frequency and the discrim reduced to 75) I had lots of problems with chatter and worst of all i had real issues pinpointing targets. Also the detector seems to have real problems recovering on some tagets with the target tone remaining constant and only able to kill the tone by squeezing the trigger. lastly on a few targets the pinpointing just did not work at all with the machine just making a load of odd random bleeping. I have even stopped walked away switched off taken the battery out put it back and start from a clean boot. Has anyone else expierienced similar?????.

Parts of the field were extremely trashy which was a total nightmare with the worst target being a flattened beer can which gave 2 sepaerate readings approximatley 12" inches appart from each other with both signals giving a very perfect camel hump solid VDI of 54 with a 70% rating. in the last field this would indicate an old halfpenny which i have had great pleasure in showing off to my detector buddies naming the target before i dug it . Finally the other issue was on some targets the VDI would change to something completely different after removing the soil plug,i can remeber one target going from 54VDI @ 75% to 91VDI 85% at target.

can anyone enlighten me ????

all the best rob

Some bad coils have been known to exist and a couple of bad V3's reported. I think most of the problems like yours have been the coil. Do you have access to another coil to try? Your dealer or White's service both should be able to help you.

It does sound like you may have a coil problem.

FWIW, every time I've had a target that the VDI changed after removing the plug, it has been trash (pull tab or foil, usually).

If it is working well in all your other fields then I would not think it is the coil. Sounds like you have a really bad interferance problem there. I have one spot i hunt like that I so far have found it to be a real pain to hunt this spot with the V3. May have to look else where until we can figure out how to deal with these spots with severe EMI problems better. Try another spot and see how it works there. If you have a electric fence here that may be your problem the strong ones kill my V3.
