The water was cold, but after 45 minutes using the ATX and one empty beer can retrieved from the shallow sand depths, this happened, rendering this sand scoop useless! Back to J-E's shop it went for repair work!

What? Was the water so cold that the shaft froze and then broke like a twin Popsicle?
Or are you just so rough on your equipment.? BUMMER I hate that when it happens.
I can't believe you did not have a spare with you...I hate to think of the ring you left in the hole.
I hope it was not an omen of things to come...:ranting:

I hear that J-E does outstanding work on everything he does. Maybe you will get some
jerky and a beer while you watch the repair happen. :beers:

After I broke 4 shafts...I bought a stainless steel tube and fabricated a new one...that
was over 8 years ago. Now I have to replace the scoop's tip which I have already had
three welded on. Just looking: the steel on the bottom side of the scoop, it is wearing thin.

Dang, it is a never ending battle just trying to keep one's gear in good shape. :goodnight:

I think a little dry rot after many years of usage finally created a weak spot and that's where it broke. Today, I have a new shaft. It;s about 8" shorter, as I just reused the old one.
