Some finds with the new Gamma

First pic is from a newer park near where I live. Alot more trash dug than clad. Second pic is from my old elementary school. I was only there a couple hrs but it is looking like a good place to frequent with the Gamma.

It looks like you have some productive sites to hunt, so best of success in the future with a very good value detector pick. I used mine mainly with the stock 8" coil, but the 5" DD sure came in handy when the sites got trashy. Are you only using the stock coil?

I traded my Garrett AT Pro for an O-8 last week, it took me about two trips to get the hang of the Omega. I LOVE it!!!
I came from the old Fisher 1200 series, and it feels a lot like what I was used to.
I run it at 99 Sens and 1 Disc 2 tones, iron grunts and everything else is a higher tone.
I hit an old park, that has been hunted to death, and pulled a Mercury Dime (1929), that was laying on top of a war nickle, they were only at about 4".
No bottle caps at all... I have read that the Omega loves them, but not one. I dug a few old style pop tops at about 6" so the next time I go
I am digging all pop top signals, there may be a ring in there somewhere.

Bottom line: LOVE THE OMEGA!!!

I have the Omega as well and love it! However I have the 11"DD and it LOVES bottlecaps. I have been using the hints I found on here to figure out what is in the ground before digging but it still get fooled time to time. Saving for the Propointer at the moment then maybe another coil in the future, unless I happen to dig a nice ring :) Only thing I wish the Omega had that somehow made it on the gamma is a volume control. I know you will love your Gamma after just a few trips. I just killed my second battery so Im somewhere between 40-50 hours of use and am really getting the hang of it.

I have the 11" DD and for it's size , it does a pretty good job at separation. Took a few "mis-digs" to get the pinpointing down but now I can pinpoint just like I did with a concentric coil. I will definitely be looking at the 5" DD since alot of the public parks around me are trashy. I really like this machine. It feels well balanced even with the 11" DD and is so lightweight to swing. I really like the quote in your signature by the way.

I also found alot of the old stlye pull tabs and you are right in that finding those pull tabs means a ring is on the horizon.

I do like having the volume control feature even though I do use headphones from time to time that have separate volume controls. I was suprised that the Omega didn't have the volume control feature, being the higher priced unit. I really like my Gamma already and am sure I will fall in love with it once I learn everything it is telling me.
I am just using a modified Harbor Freight cen-tech pinpointer and it does a decent job. It air tests a quarter at about 1 1/2"-2". A pinpointer is such a time saver. I could not hunt without one now.Next year I will be getting either a Garrett or Minelab propointer. I already know about the Garrett, just waiting to see more reviews on the Minelab although the price difference at this point is making me lean towards the Garrett.

The ONLY time I don't use headphones is when I am demonstrating a detector to an individual or group. Otherwise, I always use top-quality headphones. Almost all top-brand headphones have a volume control for each ear-cup.

The Gamma, and Delta, have the built-in Volume control, however if it is adjusted lower you lose depth and ability to hear fainter responses, AND if adjusted to the minimum, or close to, you will lose all responses to higher-conductive targets. Set the Volume control at the lowest setting and you can hear iron, you can hear foil, and you can hear US nickels, but you won't hear (or might just barley hear) higher-conductive targets like big silver halves and silver dollars.

I like getting depth, I like hearing smaller and fainter responses,s and I DEFINITELY like finding silver halves and silver dollars!! Those models were not designed with a traditional approach to adjusting volume as we were used to knowing it that simply softened the loudness, they do more than that, which is why I always set the Volume on the Gamma and Delta at the highest setting and leave it there.

Mike I dug two rings a couple weeks back in an area that had been heavily hit, both were occupying space next to pull tabs. I dug about 65 pull tabs but got both gold and silver for the effort.

If I have time I have been digging all the good signals, I thought I got really lucky last night when I saw what looked to be a gold class ring in the hole it ended up being a chunk of gold foil smashed in the appropriate shape :( but I did pull another silver ring and what appears to be a silver necklace.

Monte that is really good to know, I dont miss that feature anymore. I bought a mid-grade set of phones to get me by until I have time to build a set, and they have no volume control. The Omega can really blast your ears on a shallow target, I gotta find me some spots to go with silver dollars in the ground :)

Awesome finds:thumbup:. I was double whammied today. EMI and alot of trash.:rage: I did manage to find this school mascot medallion though:

It says "Pirates" with a ship if you couldn't see it. Kind of fitting find for a treasure hunting forum.
