Here are a few pictures of some of my latest finds. I had a bit of a dry spell for several days, no silver, but then found a 1907 barber quarter yesterday and a '53 this morning. One of the sites I've been hunting for the past several months was a house site that I just knew had big silver on it. I've been hitting it several times a week as they've been working on it but missed one day 2 weeks ago when they happened to move an area of soil that I'd been waiting on and......wouldn't you know it, another local dirt-fisher had the day off and happened to drive by the site......and dug an 1878 Silver dollar!!!!! GAH! I couldn't sleep for two nights after I found out. I've never found anything bigger than a quarter and this same guy scooped me on another site I was hunting this past spring, finding 2 early 1900's silver halfs in one hole! AH well....so it goes. But that wasn't the funny story. The funny story happened Tuesday this week. I took my 1 yr. old son to the sitter's and on the way noticed a yard sale at a house I've been wanting to detect. SO I stop on the way back to ask permission of the owner. I just knew there were coins in this lot. I walked up and was looking around the garage sale stuff and there in the back back was a table FULL, and I do mean FULL, of old coins!! LOL. One of the guys selling stuff sells at flea markets. There were boxes of Indian head pennies, buffalo nickels, merc dimes, silver galore! All priced accordingly of course and all in great condition, better than any I've dug for sure. I probably seemed a bit daft when I just started chuckling (was probably drooling a bit too...). All I could think of was "I wonder what they would do if I took those coins and just tossed them out in the yard so I could find them with my etrac...." sigh.....in my mirth I forgot all about asking permission to detect the yard. Will have to stop back by tomorrow morning.
Anywho, here are some of my finds. The picture with the larger number of coins includes a totally toasted V nickel and a very sad Buffalo, as well as a nicer one, a 1946 canadian penny, a nice 1903 indian, a silver war Jefferson nickel, some mercs and some rosies. Those were all found in the park/pool site that I've been huting this summer. Found a lot of silver dimes there, tons of wheaties, and some other odds and ends but alas.....no big silver. The last 2 pictures are of my barber quarter from yesterday (shame it has a nick in the side, was that way when I dug it) and the rosie I found this morning. Am hoping to hit the house site one more time tomorrow morning because they were removing another big tree from the lot some time this afternoon.
