targets

a couple of silver coins. Henry 8 and Elizabeth 1

Sure looks like you dug some really old silver. How old, Americans are not familiar with coins like that.

in the UK you can find stuff from the last 2000 years aprox .
stuff gets turned over on fields when they get ploughed .
and gets more to the surface .
but even on pasture you can get finds close to the surface

you gotta love those UK hammereds...
you guys are in metal detecting heaven.

i was in the UK detecting for a week about 2 years ago - basically spoiled me for life. detecting in the US will never be the same, although my Artifact Detecting Team colonial hunt program is the closest to that you can get here...

check the UK detecting forums to see whats coming up ,its pretty mind boggling most months at the grand selection of ancient finds being unearthed .so this spurs on the rest of the hunters to put in the hours so that they hit the jackpot!
companies do detecting holidays in the UK for US hunters if they want to try their luck .

the sixpence of Elizabeth the 1st ,bottom right, has the date 1582 on the other side ,it needs cleaning and toning .
1582 the silver was of 0.925 fineness whereas beforehand it had been of 0.916 fineness .
when times were hard they just added some base metal into the alloy to make it go farther ,kinda like the US printing more dollars to pay the debts .
