Some Coin$trike questions

I've got about 5 hours on my C$ and think I am coming along nicely. But a few questions bug me. All opinions are welcome. I also like reading how great you think the C$ is!

1. Ground Balancing-I know the book says find a large area clear
of all metal. Sometimes I can find only a small space with
metal close by. My question is "as long as you get the little
beep when releasing the GB button, does that mean it is properly
balanced"? I am beginning to find GB is crucial to good
operation.

2. Another Ground Balancing question-"When powering up the C$ does
the unit retain the previous setting as when powered down?" I
know other settings are retained.

3. I have read several statements that high sensitivity
and threshold may affect depth. But I find increasing
sensivity and/or threshold gives me a stronger signal on my
target. What are your thoughts on this? Also I have noticed
that if a coin is 5 or 6 inches or greater from the coil
the TID changes from what it should be. For example a dime may
read 32 at 3 inches from the coil but if you move the dime to
6 inches or greater away it may change to 22 on the TID. Any
thoughts on this?

Number 1. I always ground balance in all metal. It is sometimes easier to find a clean spot when not in disc. Also, I only lift the coil a couple of inches before releasing the button and waiting for the beep confirming a good ground balance. Number 2 All settings from when you turned the detector off are retained. I don't know if ground balance pertains to this. Number 3, If I understand you correctly, I have found what you say to be true. The signal does seem stronger to me with a higher sensitivity and threshold. It seems to me that when I run my threshold at 0, the signal no matter where the sens is set seems mushy. By running at -5, the signal seems strong and clean. I have noticed that the C$ loses it's accuracy on the vdi numbers when the coins are deep, but the tones remain consistant. I have dug many 8 inch deep coins that are a tick of a high tone, but the number will read 19 to 22. When I open the plug, a silver coin will jump to the 30's. I always dig numbers around 20 that pinpoint over 6 inches. On another note, I always have ran my C$ with the sensitivity around 6 and recently I have been running it at 8 and my deep finds have increased dramatically. Also, when I know I am in junk free ground, I ground balance the detector all the time as it only takes a second. R.L.

I have always wondered about the GB setting being saved or not too, but on the other hand maybe not a good thing as the GB setting at a given place may change from day to day.I assume that the moisture content in the ground changes from day to day which would mess with your GB settings.
Just my 2 cents and I'm sure I'm wrong.

Turn on your ground tracking,it will do the job for you. When Dimitar designed the Gold Strike he activated the ground tracking meter, you can watch the meter change as you move across ghanging ground conditions. I wish he had activated that circuit on his Coin Strike. It would have given us confidence that the tracking is working.
