Some Clean Clad

I just wanted to thank Monte for his coin cleaning tips!

Thanks

I was just reflecting on my meager finds this past month or so and realize that while I have some 'down-time' I might as well do a little coin cleaning myself.

I headed out the 21st of last month to spend a couple of days checking on some access for a group outing we had scheduled for the 10th-12th of June. Then I headed off to visit my brother in Idaho who was diagnosed with cancer the end of February. then off to Utah where I intended to get in ample hunting time in my favorite ghost town and a few sites that I knew had potential.

Well, I had a brief but good visit with my brother, but wasn't feeling great myself. I grabbed a breakfast at a small town cafe in Oregon and ended up sick ... for two weeks! I also had some problems with my left leg swelling up a bit and starting to get a bit painful.

Anyway, I rested all through the Memorial Day Weekend to get the strength to drive home, then rested here. No detecting on that trip and it cost me a chunk of change to make that trip, too.

Then on the 9th of this month I headed off again, over the food poisoning but dealing with the still swelling and more painful leg, to make the outing in Central Oregon and then, hopefully, get over to Idaho to see my brother again. Sadly, he passed away on Friday the 10th, just 15 weeks to the day after they diagnosed him with cancer. I enjoyed the outing and getting with a lot of good people from around here who made the journey, but I couldn't get in any real detecting as I was in terrible pain. Then on the 12th I drove over to Idaho to see my sister-in-law and niece, then headed for a VA Hospital on Monday morning.

The didn't waste any time finding the cause, which is a blood clot in my left thigh, and started me on a lot of meds right away to try and deal with the very over-sized and hard-as-a-rock left calf. I lingered there for 4 days, detecting for maybe a total of 2 hours in that time, then headed for home, and several more hospital visits as we're trying to reduce the swelling and thin the blood a bit.

Anyway, I'm sorry to ramble about this but I just got home after putting in some detecting. I went to the hospital and gave them some more blood to examine, then I had some time to put in a little detecting here and a little bit there. I actually got in more detecting today than I have since about May 18th and that means I have really fallen behind my coin count goal for the year.

Now, after seeing the results of your coin cleaning efforts, and having just glanced at what I have gathered the past 2 months, I think I need to do a bit of coin cleaning myself! Time to commandeer the kitchen sink and counter area fire up the Lortone Tumbler. How knows, if I make enough mess or have the drying towels scattered around, the wife might decide to go fetch some dinner instead of try to cook it. I might get lucky.

I will say that my 5

SWEET. It's looking good. HH, Nancy

Monte I hope you heal up well and feel like detecting soon. You are right the nickel count is pretty low......I am going to work on that.

Thanks,

Bob

That is some clean clad. Monte, where are the tips posted. I have tons of clad and havent been successful at all with getting them clean. Even tried tumbling them with no success.

Monte my penny count was pretty good. I just tumble them and let them go. I tried to clean the zincs one time with the toilet bowl cleaner.....bad move unless you love pitted pennys!

make sure I keep a watch on the jar of toilet bowel cleaner. I don't let them stay in there long, and I try to rotate it and agitate it to get all sides coated/treated. Then, after only a few minutes, I immediately get them all rinsed off really well with hot water. They do okay and the only really bad condition pennies really started out that way.

Monte, I hope you get your leg under control so you can get that count up. As I live in Southern Utah I was wondering which ghost town you were going to hit?. One of the ones up north or down south.
