Some advantages to a concentric coil are,

better pinpointing, better iron trash handling, and more accurate coin depth reading if you really associate the depth gauge "fill mark" to actual in-ground targets.
In some conditions it might get a little better depth, and I have found it to be quieter, too. Since I can last longer with the 8" concentric than I can the stock 10½" DD, it must have a slight 'edge' in reduced weight. I will have to put them on a postal scale and see what the difference is.
I hunt with a good friend, Chris, who popped 510 silver US coins last year using exclusively his Explorer XS then Explorer II. He used his 15" WOT but found the stock 10½" only lacked in coverage, but still did as well in depth., He also has the 8" FBS coil, and has had the 5" SunRay coil.
I've let him use my Explorer II w/8" concentric and he has been impressed. I'll continue my evaluation of it for a few more weeks as I am headed out, again, for some Utah & Nevada ghost towns and city park hunting in Utah in three weeks. This 8" concentric is an EXcelerator concentric design with the Hot Head 'Ferret" label.
I have detectors and/or coils for coverage and wanted something that would handle iron trash well, pinpoint more accurately, especially, and I have found it in this 8" coil.
Just as there is no one, perfect detector, there is no one perfect coil.
