Soliciting Bandito II uMax comments....

I just took a firmer step back into the 90's by picking up another older detector today. I plan on taking it with me to ghost town sites and into areas that need a little more depth than my Pantera. What I would appreciate is if you have used one, could you tell me what to expect with it? I've always heard really good things about it, and decided that now was the best time to try. Any hint or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Rentasquid,
Its a good unit and I regret trading mine. Never seen a Pantera so don't know the differences but I will say...
- Monte's ATC works really well on it.
- Get a small coil and it will be a killer in trashy sites. It is hot on brass & bronze...most of my really old relics were found with the B2mm.
- Keep your disc below 4 or you may experience some loss of depth.
- Mine needed the O-rings to keep the knobs from being bumped out of position.
- Its got an all metal mode so you can use this for sizing an iffy target or for finding the old trashy spots in the middle of a farm.
- I usually do a minimum of 50% overlap. Grid it and dig it.

Thanks for the tips, and it was nice chatting with you the other evening!

I to have just purchased a BD II UM.....Will someone please explain to me about using the tuner. I also have heard you can super tune with the Threshold like the Vac and Cib. I purchased it to hunt in am mode and check targets with Disc but if you super tune I guess you can't hunt in am...

If you do not have the manual, it is available free on the Tesoro forum. Here is the link: http://www.tesoro.com/BandidoIIMicroMax_Manual_1.htm

When hunting in all metal mode, you want the threshold to be stable barely audible hum as a noticable rise in tone is what you are looking for.

Those who use supertuning (turning up the threshold) use it in the Discrimination mode. I normally don't use supertune unless I am in a relatively clean area as it also makes trash sound better.

As to using the tune, I've cut & pasted the manual section that answers your question:

Selecting the proper tuning mode

The Auto Tune Mode (TUNE-AUTO) on the Bandido II

I bought mine from Arizona Al when he was still a Tesoro Dealer, before he moved to Georgia.

One thing that I especially like is the non-motion all metal mode. This detector is still a very reliable, easy to use metal detector and very effective in the hands of a skilled operator...Good depth, easy to pinpoint, great discrimination mode.

Folks that have one have a tendency of not selling it, love using it.
