Software versions and signal strength modulation.

Got a GB SE with 2,9 software and love it. It talks to me like we are brothers.

The signal strength modulation in this detector is absolutely perfect for my needs in hunted out parks, trashy parks, searching for recently lost jewelry, it is my go to detector most of the time now together with the V3.

Going to buy another one in the family and need some advice. What i am looking for is the same detector but with less modulation for use on plowed fields or other kinds of disturbed ground where you need hard hits on deeper stuff more then the language to differentiate deep from shallow, like in an undisturbed park.

I was thinking that maybe some of the other versions have different modulation, not only the cabela model.

Maybe DJ wants to fill me in.

Will a G2 with Xsoftware or a GB with X software be different. Or is a used cabela the way to go for the task.

Tip...or wish for DJ... Is it possible in future killer detectors like the GB G2 series to have a turnpot for adjustable signal strength modulation.

If you get a Cabellas model make sure you get a version 2 software as it still has the manual ground balance ability. No Vco In disc but has it in all metal and the Vco pinpoint. I also think the gain on this model is over driven. Ive heard of 2.9s being sold at Cabellas as the regular Gb which is good but if you don't want vco go for a 2.0 over the 1 software. I have the 2.0 and I have not seen any tests on you tube and or the forums I can not duplicate and or beat at lower sens levels and that is one reason I think the gain is overdriven. And the only reason I say beats the others is the non vco hitting louder at depth. I am not trying to knock any version I just think that this version is underrated because it was not the latest release that most people waited for and then said Wow its super hot and they never tried this one as a comparison as its super hot too in its own right.
Good luck with your new machine whatever you decide.

just got back from 3 hrs at the beach 1am to 4am i am changing my user name to capt insaneo :bouncy:

huge cut and no GOLD doh

That looks like an SE with either 2.9 or 3 software in it. Send him a question and ask what software version is in it.

It was a link to an ebay auction of a yet to determine version SE. It could not have been a pro model due to the decals but could have been a cabelas .

Oh well..

I wish i had a turnpot to adjust this with.

Thanks..

Very informative and to me - new wisdom....

Now, how do i get a cabelas v2 software lol.

Hihihi... This is a journey....damn perfectionism...

Cabela's no longer sells the Gold Bug with software 2 / 2.9 or 3. They sell the 'New Plain Jane' model with version 4 software in it, and it does not have all the features of the SE / Pro / DP.

ok you got me 1 i didnt even knowwhat Cabela's was/is so went looking, found the gold bug looks the same as my gold bug pro just dosnt have pro on it and if it is different why does this store have a detector nobody else does?

They are using an old pic still from 2010, when they first started selling them, they had either version 2 or 2.9 software in them, then in late January of 2011 I found one with version 3 software so I got one at $499.99 .... was a steal at that price as I got a Pro model. It has all the features of the Pro / DP. A few weeks ago I took another look to see what they had in the local store, the changed them to the 'Plain Jane Model' with version 4 software.

I have no info on version 4, so I can not comment.

The new Cabellas model version or version 4 has no manual ground balance as well as no Vco in Disc mode.

???? as far as I know my goldbug is version 4 with ground balance....
Though not bought at cabales....

! Version 3, and since earlier this year, the newer Pro and DP models have version 4.

To find out your version number, hold down the pinpoint button, then turn on the machine. The version number will be displayed for a few seconds in the center of the screen. I have v4, and this machine makes me smile rather often.:)
