Software update

I am on the fence with this detector..I do read a lot of good reports about this machine and it seems to have a place with my other detectors but I would be all over this detector if the software update really could take care of some of the issues that some people have been talking about...can they really do that in a software update? I guess it seems that better ID at depth or more depth and better ID are a lot of the things I read about that forum users would like to see changed can they do that with an update? My Iphone has software updates that are free and sometimes they update the texting and change some small things that don't really make a difference.

Don't you need new software to make a major change? What could they change with a software update that would make me see that the future of this machine can be changed by hooking it up to the Internet? I am also waiting to see what Fisher does it seems there are only a few machines that are cutting edge and seem to work. I read a lot about the Etrac and the F75...and now the Deus seems to have a lot of great features what is next..will the upgrade make the guys on the fence buy one. I know if you wait around for the next new machine you can waste a lot of time and are never promised that it will deliver but I have a G2 that I know like the back of my hand and it does a great job..I have time because I had a bone marrow transplant and Stanford Hospital won't let me hunt till Dec it will be a whole year of wanting to get back into this hobby and maybe with a new machine to even add more fun to my return?

Not sure what the issues are that people are not happy with...Im interested to know.

I have been using 1.2 version before, since 1.5 year version 2 and both are excellent. I am sure version 3 will be just as good or better, why are you worrying?.

It is not about me being worried more about what can they do with software updates over the internet now that the machine is selling in the USA

At 61 years of age I stopped sitting on the fence. Life is to short to not follow your passion. I have used the detectors you favor and the Deus wins hands down. Hope your feeling better and wish you a speedy recovery.

1000s of UK users inc me have upgraded the software via the XP website ,and its a breeze to do .you can rollback if you want to.
if theres something you would like to see you can email alain the French designer and he will give you a reply .
he listens to users comments as hes a user himself .

LowBoy, the update is most likely a complete upgrade. A Eprom is used to store the programs on most electronic devices. It does not have software in the sense of an operating system. The Program
runs when activated ( on switch) When an update is performed, the program is stopped from running and then erased, and the updated version is installed. This is why they tell you to not turn off the unit
while doing an update, If you do, then it may be stopped after the program has been erased and the new program has not been installed completely. The only limit to what the upgrade can be, is the size of the memory in the chip and the speed which it runs. SO, each upgrade is a complete ,full , install of an upgraded program. With these being the only issues with an update, then the sky is the limit as far as updates.

I would think as far as updates the limiting factor would be the hardware. As tmanly said "The only limit to what the upgrade can be, is the size of the memory in the chip and the speed which it runs."

It would be like going from a Windows 98 operating system to a Windows 7 operating system. The only limits would be if the hardware is able to handle the update.

I'm in the same boat as Aaron......So can someone kindly list their concerns?

Please don't list target ID at depth..(or lack of it) because if that's supposed to be an issue, then some folk are living in Disney land.

It is better that a detector only IDs when the signal is 'clean' or strong enough to meaningfully do so with reasonable confidence, rather than some 'flash in the pan' process that has little chance of being anything but a 'noisy guess'.

Audio will always be the best method at depth...perhaps the only method, for targets on the extreme of detection range.

If anyone can tell me the name of ANY detector, operating with the same size of search head, that can outperform the present Deus....then I'm 'all ears.

+++++++

Dear lowboy, I know how passionate you are about your detecting.....don't hesitate.....for as of this moment in time, the Deus will be the best you've ever used, on land.

Keep well and all our best wishes are for your quick return to the hobby.....Matt.....TheMarshall.
