Sod cutting knifes.....Trying to get ready.......

Now that Spring is closing in on us, I've been thinking about sod cutting tools.

Hunting knifes are OK, but I don't use mine much.

I was thinking if I had something that would cut better, I might be able to save some time.

I found a thick bladed cutlery knife that is a one piece (except for tacked on grips) forged stainless steel. Very strong. $7 on sale.

I rounded the point, marked it off in inches and serrated the edge with a grinder.

Here's some knifes. The one I modified is on the left. What do you think?

Will it work:shrug:

Happy Hunting,

I like your tooth cut modified blade, but the pommel of the handle could hurt your hand.

Those should work just fine! I use the std Lesche digging tool. However, I noticed a hunting buddy who usually uses a Lesche, using a Hori Hori tool (knife). It worked pretty well. But then again, probably no better than the ones you show.... :)

The best tool I have found for sod cutting is a Japanese Hori-Hori knife. You can find them on the internet or gardening stores.

how you do it - yep - if I saw you with that in one hand, and the Arky Barky in the other hand, I'd have no choice but to throw down all my money and jewelery and take off. :poke:

I use the Lesche trowel and an assortment of the Wilcox diggers from the short trowel to the 22", before that was other hand trowels.
For the big jobs, I have an assortment of shovels from Predator Tools.
The little dog always has to get her nose and paws in the works which makes easier work for me.
