Socket on meter

EdUK

New member
I have purchased a minelab sovereign meter (used) - my question is the socket on the back of it turns about 90 degrees when I am connecting the cable - I am guessing that this should not happen - is this the case please ?
Also, is there an easy way to get it apart without totally demolishing the decal on the front panel ?

Your right, the socket shouldn't turn. By turning it could twist the connections inside or even break a solder joint. I don't think there is a way of removing the decal without damaging it, but you could try a small bead of Epoxy around the socket on the outside. For a permanent fix you need to go inside.

The decal is quite strong, about 0.5mm thick, same stuff as the decals on Sovereign front and stuck with a non drying glue, similar to that of insulating tape
to get inside
Under the Decal are 4 screws, one in each corner, its easy to peal off and replace if your carefull, i use a very small opticians screwdriver to start it off, (some just lift the 4 corners to get at the screws) once inside just tighten the inner nut, to help do this leave the plug in as it gives something to hold onto, You might have to take out the circuit board, to do this just undo the nut on the calibrator knob and it comes out.
Once done and before you put back the screws, connect and switch on to make sure that you haven't put the display upside down(as i once did) finally its a case of just putting the decal back on, it should have enough glue on it as its non drying like double sided tape

Thanks fella's - It is supposed to have been converted to 180 so I would rather get it apart and check all is ok inside. Now....where did I put that scewdriver
