So where were you in 1997 ? Detecting yet? Computing? Remember the BBS Forum?

I found the BBS forum shortly after getting My Sov in 97. I just lurked for a long long time. Almost nervous to post and sound like an idiot!! Then it kept growing and the members and the posters shifted like all forums do over time. Eventually I started posting and posted quite a bit in the early years of the Explorer era.

I remember reading a lot of posts by Jim in Upstate, Jim Vokes, Rick ND. Mayor and the Guvner. I learned a lot by reading the many posts!

Great run Guvner--it has been fun through the years to have a place like this to post and share all aspects of this great hobby!!

I don't even think I owned a computer yet and I was hunting with a Garetts GTA 1000:)

Looking at some of the names on the forums and the questions brings back some great memories of the hottest detector on the market the Sovereign XS for those that took the time to understand them. Many including myself had our doubts on this detector after taking it out the first day, but we found out after using it for a while it was one of the greatest ever made.
We were very fortunate that Gary (Guvner):clapping::clapping: started this forum as it was the best there was and still is and should continued to be the best there is. If it wouldnt have been for this forum many of us never would have learn our Minelabs or even knew about what these detectors are capable of.

Thanks Guvner for bringing back some good memories and being able to have the best detecting site on the Web.

The only forum I knew of "back in those days" ('97, '98, etc...) was T'net. I'm sure there were more, but search engines and "word-of-mouth" was primitive, as far as the internet went. And for sure there were no "state specific"and niche forums, as I recall. Just national forums, where it had, in some cases, not even been broken down into subject-specific topics.

But if Ron (CA) learned the nuances of the Sov's and such from this BBS forum, it must've been a good informative forum. Because he probably is personally responsible for hundreds of Explorer sales, for turf-hunters, here in CA, once he moved here. I still say he's a "shill" for Minelab. How much did you make on commission for each Explorer sold here Ron? :)

I was in Forest Park digging up an 1839-O Seated Half Dime :super: wrapping up a great week of detecting. That week I found 4 Seated Dimes, 3 Barber Dimes including an XF 1895-S, 14 Indian Cents, 4 Shield Nickels, 2 V nickels, and only one Merc. :( I posted on the CMD forum back then. One week later, you and I took a drive over to Pana, Ill. with my Spectrum and your Sovereign... I hunted with it for a while that day and doubted I would ever own a Minelab. Then along came the Explorer 3 years later....... Ahhhhh those were the days! :beers: Take care and HH, Mike.
