So, What Are Your Plans For The Winter Months, For Those Who Get Cold Weather And,Or Snow:shrug:

Going to hunt anyway? Buy any new equipment? Build a display box, or just enjoy together time with your sweety:inlove:

I know all of you in the northern areas will have plenty of projects, but I hope to try and make up for lost time this winter. Especially in water hunting. Looking forward to some good finds.

Hibernate............. Till the warm spring sun shines...............

If snow comes along, the tall grass gets crushed to the ground, making it easier to hunt. No woodticks either. There might be some stubborn mosquitoes, but not like in the Summer wet days. The only downside is that it gets dark early, making the hunt practically impossible after work hours... As to the cold weather, the only thing that will stop me besides pouring rain, is if the wind exceeds gusts of over 70 km/h... March 10, 2010, the wind gusted to up to 210 km/h. YES, it was windy. Trieste, Italy. You can check how windy it gets here, on Youtube searching Bora and Trieste. :)

When Ol man winter sets in Chicago here my detectors get a rest and
I get into my Hobby of Pre-War and Post-War Lionel trains. I will do some
research on sites for metal detecting here and there but the detecting
really tapers off in the winter here and my detecting takes a back seat
for a few months. when we were allowed to woods hunt that's where I
would be usually on the winter week-ends but it is now outlawed for
reasons I won't get into... For you guys that can hunt all year, I wish
you the Best!!!

Thanks! If possible, I hit the woods on days off. I like to keep healthy by hunting toboggan hills. It's a great work out.

Good to hear from you Fabio! It sounds like you have whisky in your blood:rofl: I miss your pics of finds. You are privileged to hunt some very old sites.

The life! My wifey and I just might side off to some warmer climate to warm up a bit. Of course, the detector tagging along is a must!

Oh Oh :yikes:.......You are going to new dimensions. Water hunting is great. I know you will enjoy it. I hope to see a video of a water hunt fro you next year.

In winter I will come more often to the beach. Temporary move the sand and get some treasures within our coil. And there are few people. Here the weather is not too extreme, the temperature rarely falls snow 5th and lasts only a few days but rain is a common companion.
happy hibernation :buds:

January& February wife and I head for the Florida Gulf. Ain't tropical but easy on the wallet.

Staying warm, keeping dry and in good health are on top of my list.

I hibernated too much last winter. Hopefully this winter will not see the snow that broke Boston, MA records last year.
Warmer climates sound great. If anyone needs a tag along couple I am sure I can convince my wife to take a trip south. Let me know.
If the sand moves out, the sun shines, no snow, warmer temps (above freezing) will make for a great winter.
If not cleaning up the basement, getting ready for a HUGE yard sale, repairing a pile of broken stuff sitting on my to-do bench, setting up
my plan for detecting strategies for the summer, loosing some weight, and of course: keeping the doctors / dentists / pharmacists gainfully employed.

In-between everything I hope to find time to do a lot of water walking and - I hate to say it - a bit of sand sifting and dirt digging with a new (to me) detector and coil. I.e. a Shadow X5 detector (19KHz - hot for small chains, I hope) and the BIG Nel coil for the ATPro go cover more ground faster; both just to know first hand what they can do. No they will not replace the ATX or Infinium for the salt water...but they might just have a niche while searching for a lost item to return. The ATPro / BIG Nel might be great for fast sweeping of fresh water swimming holes.

I guess there will not be too much time to do anything else except for eating, drinking and sleeping.

Same game, just a different location. Does your wife also metal detect? Mine won't have anything to do with the hobby, except swipe the gold rings.

Yea, cold fresh air is good, but after spending 3 years in Iceland...enough is enough.

However, in the summer of 1984:
Two parks yielded over 3,000 coins between two detectorist in three weeks. Under the midnight sun in
the summer time was great. Then off to the Blue Lagoon for a warm up dip.
For beach detecting we did not need a detector. When the coins were replaced...to old ones were dumped
over a cliff into the ocean. It was a rough climb down and worse back up, but lots of fun just picking up as
many coins as you wanted to. Only one silver ring and a silver initial plate were found, NO gold.

God, Mother Nature, my Wife, and the doctors will surely determine what I do this coming winter.

I love how your beard if turning "white"!

Over the last several years I have amassed a huge collection of junk finds that I have piled in several different boxes as well as scrap metal from other ventures. I plan on sorting all the scrap metal over the winter to help fund a new metal detector. Been thinking about another AT Pro or maybe an AT Gold.

Wife did detect but TKRs and foot surgery took care of that. No more walking on the beach sand or kneeling to dig the targets. She does enjoy watching form the comfort of the car and traveling way south, like the Caribbean every time she can. Of course that means she does not have to cook, wash dishes or make the bed. Ah ... the easy life! I'm ready.
