So let's talk about pitch hold for a minute....

So normally I go back and forth between Andy's pattern with normal response and TTF with long response. I read through Andy's book again over Christmas and something stuck with me in the section about pitch hold response. He says that lots of people have made good finds using it because only the threshold changes without sending out much of a typical signal. I thought I'd give it a shot yesterday and hunted with it in Andy's pattern for about 3 hours at a school I go to on a somewhat regular basis (I've pulled more CW bullets from that school than anywhere else and a colonial coin, so some targets are deep). I had tried Pitch Hold before and it drove me nuts, but I got through it yesterday....I "existed" with it but didn't really have any major "a-ha" moments. I didn't really expect to after just 3 hours, but I'd like to hear from some people who do use it.

What do you like about it?

Are there instances in which you prefer it over the others?

Are there instances in which you feel like it'd be more of a hindrance than the others?

Tried it along with just about all other options and gave it up as hopless. Problem with some of these settings is they don't work so well in trashy areas like parks which i hunt 90% of the time. Might work ok in trashless or light trash areas.

Some of those so called advanced settings are like olives in that an acquired taste is needed. Some never acquire the taste!
I think one has to pick the appropriate site for some of those settings and stick with it for a few hunts before giving it up.

I like it because I don't like listening to the same monotonous tone all the time! (just my personal preference............)
I use it ALL the time & never felt it was a hindrance..........

Hi,

Yeah, Pitch Hold [ can be of benefit ] in certain scenarios.
Two "Pitch Hold" videos I shot did the rounds for a few years.
The MAIN thing I remember about it is, it can suddenly, "GRAB" something even when the full width of the search coil isn't quite covering the area scanned...remarkable.
Will look-up my Notes and post further.

Meantime, Happy New Year!

May the finds rise out of the ground before you in 2015...

Thanks! I'd be interested in seeing that!

Hi Everyone:

It's been awhile since I've posted as I tend to post more on Facebook groups now. Hope everyone is well!!

I exclusively hunt in pitch hold. Mainly because when I first got my Etrac that is what the guy who taught me to use it...used. I didn't know any better so I naturally got used to it. Even when I switch to TTF, I stay in pitch hold. I've tried the other responses but I'm partial to pitch hold because I have used it for so long. I suppose whatever you prefer is best.

I have no way to compare it to the other responses but it has been phenomenal for me and doesn't drive me crazy at all. I had an excellent 2014. I found 172 silver coins and my fair share of old coppers large and small. I will include pics of some of my highlighted finds.

Found this link when Googling as well: http://www.minelab.com/treasure-talk/pitch-hold-in-e-trac-explorer-se-pro

Happy Hunting Everyone and good luck in 2015!!

"That's really cool!

You found my Treasure Talk Blog on Pitch Hold...well Dunne!

ThanX for sharing it again.

Hope "TrpnBils" will find some use out if it?

Good Hunting

Interesting article - I guess what gets me about that mode is that when in normal mode I can hear the clipped chirps of iron falsing, but in pitch hold all the responses seem to basically be the same and the pitch will still change just as much for those iron falses as it would for a deep silver coin.

Hmmm I don't really know what you mean TB. What is your setting? Maybe it has to do with the program you use as well. I'm sure Des has a better grasp on your question than I do but I'm in love with pitch hold and don't like any of the other responses. lol. I've hunted so much I'm fairy certain when I am detecting an iron signal by checking VDI, repeatable tone in 360 and sometimes toggling over to TTF to see if tone is high or low.

Des...a pleasure to meet you. I appreciate your input and thanks for responding. I love the Etrac.
