So, let me get this straight.....

The higher the disc setting on the F-75, the more sensitive it is . I was wondering why I had to set my sens setting all the way down to 28 and still had a lot of chatter today. I was running a high disc setting of 40 just to cherry pick using 4h tones and listening for a consistent repeatable audio response. My first thought was, what good is a sensitivity control that goes all the way to 99, if all I can use is 25-50% of it in town. But, on the other hand, it sure is nice having way more than you need if the conditions ever allow for it. The chatter reminds me of the 1266X and the MXT, it sounds like it's sizzling :)

Dan,

For some reason??? Never heard a good explanation why, in DE mode, setting discrimination between 5 - 19 (I think) cuts the sensitivity down. When you have disc in this range you can often kick sense up to the 50's 60's in town, hunt out of this range and then back down to what you are seeing. Away from power lines or other noise sensitivity can go way up. My explorer is much the same.

I played around a bit- cranked the sens to where is was unstable in the 5-19 range and then outside. Had the same results depth wise. JE mode does not have this feature. Anybody have a clue why they did this?

HI Dan,

I too had a lot of chatter when I first got mine and after you have used it a bit you will get to understand it more and do well I am sure. I am used to the different tones too with my Minelabs, but seen I was spending to much time with the F-75 with so many tones trying to get them to lock in. Last few times out in the parks that are bit trashy I used the 2 tones and set my disc up to get rid of the pull tabs and notched in the nickles, so I only had 2 tones to listen too and those that were low tones I didn't dig while those that were higher I dug if they were deep or the numbers were good and a repeatable signal. I did much better then normal and found it easier to use with 2 tones in trash compared to the 4 tones. I also got one of the smaller coils and found these are awesome also and have great depth too.

Good luck

Rick

And yes I have a clue as to why, but I won't post it because I don't feel like listening to a bunch of crap.

Turn the X70 down to 16 or so and it hunts better in iron too. Same philosophy, get rid of the deeper iron signals for areas where the goodies are shallow and mixed with iron. Make sense?

I know another difference but won't post that either! :poke:

Some people like to crank it up in iron and listen to the noise especially on a machine that has the ability to still give you repeatable signals on the good stuff at those higher settings. Its all about choices.

Assuming he was in DE mode and kept the sensitivity setting constant one would expect a drop in depth in the 5-19 range.

By the way, didn't he fish for BlueFish off of the Cape?

I knew what you were up to you old scoundrel. Sometimes the bait is just to irresistible and besides that, you are wrong anyway. :punch:

No excuse, I'm just an old fart. :)

He may have fished for them here. I really was young then to really remember, or most likely care about all the particulars.
