SO! Just how good is the ACE250?

Was metal detecting a hundred year old church here in Delaware ,I went to the parish office and got permission from the Secretary. After digging up about 13 rosie dimes, I got a solid fifty -cent signal at 8 inches.Last time I got a fifty cent signal it turned out to be a boy scout pin as big as fifty-cents.After removing the grass plug and diggin out popped two silver quarters at 8 inches This machine never ceases to amaze me.Only detected for about 2 hrs and bagged over six dollars in quarters and dimes. Will go back next couple days to finish up. Nothing back to late 1800s yet. Wayne

I really like mine. It is good a sniffing out those coins.

The Ace 250 is a very good detector but I think it really shines with the 9x12 concentric coil. If you cannot find lots of stuff with that combination, there is something wrong.

Hi Jerry
What ways does the 9x12 coil help the 250? I know it probably makes it go deeper and a person has a little bigger swath when he swings. Does it help pick out the targets better? I'm just curious because I been thinking about getting one that size but waiting till I find a little more with my stock setup. I do have the sniper coil but was wondering about the bigger coil and if it did make much difference. I'm new to this but have learned a lot in just the last few months. I hunt mostly parks and around ball fields with an occasional freshwater beach. Thanks.

Hi Gary

Well the 250 is my wife's detector and I based my comments on observing what it has done for her. She had problems learning how to pinpoint with the stock coil and was really getting discouraged. Got the sniper coil for her and her pinpointing improved but she still was not finding all that much. Probably because of the small footprint of the coil. Then we tried the 9X12 coil and things really took off. I am not sure if it just coincided with her getting experience, depth or more coverage but the large coil is really working for her to the point where which one of us finds the most depends on who choose the ground to cover that had more targets. She has easily paid for her detector, both extra coils and her Propointer with the clad coins found with the 9x12 coil in the last couple of years. Sorry for the non-technical answer but I think that results speak pretty well in this case.

My ACE 250 has been working for me but have over 1000 hours on it. Just building and cashing in the clad got me a Garrett Propointer, then a sniper coil, then a Tesoro Vaquero. Was saving up more clad (again) for an AT PRO but the ACE/VAQ combo bought me a 2nd Propointer...now I can help my wife dig plus have a backup....just a matter of time until it wears out.

I don't know of any other detector that has the possibilities with the sniper coil. My other detectors can't get as close to metal poles, etc.

About the same time as my wife bought the Ace 250, someone gave me an old Grand Master Hunter which I used for a while and then sent it to Garrett and they went through it completely. Really like it but the weight got to my shoulder and had to get something lighter. I was about ready to buy the 250 when Garrett came our with the At Pro and I went that way because of some added features. I have used her Ace 250 quite a bit and would have no problem at all if that was my only detector.
