And they said I have to buy a 10$ permit to look on the beach and it is only ok to do in the off season(june 21 - August) . What kind of bs is that? is this common?

I dunno where are you? I know that here in NC we can not hunt in State Parks at all. So in some sense that is not bad, Beale.

yes it is that badd, they do not want you to interfear whith the swimmers, see if they will let you try from 6.00 am to 8.00 am

They will let people dig huge holes and bury themselves only to leave the crater and not say a word. What about the Frisbee's that are flying around the people?

Because whatever is on Government property belongs to the Government. This was in reference to Smokey Mountains National Park, about an hour away.

There's too many other places to hunt, IMO.

im in ny state. . i went there today and paid the 10 bucks to look on the beach. it is on the south shore of lake ontario. The permit said you can only look when the beach is in the off season. The swimming is not allowed until june 21 so it is ok to look now. but after june 21 have to wait until the swimming months end in august. the permit said basically you can only look on the beach and nothing bigger than 1 1/2 inches wide and long to dig with, if you find anything worth more that 10$ you have to immediatly turn it over to park police or workers (OK) and if its anything that is historic value also turn it over. anyway i found some change and a toe ring that was junk.

If there are No posted signs excluding metal detectors, I NEVER ask, unless I believe I'm in a scheduled site, [archeological,i.e.].

I go all over the world, [almost]. If you want rejection always be sure to seek out some bureaucrat who will feel important saying NO . Especially if he's having a bad day, or is just another dumb, uninformed, uncaring person who wants to feel important.

Amen. True words, Truth! Often the best tactic is to stay quiet
with a low profile and of course, leave very few clues you were
there.
