So far swith what little I have tested the 350 I think it's going to be a winner and a decided improvement over the 250. I especially

like the DD coil and its performance ( even though it loves bottlecaps ) and dead on pinpointing with or without the pinpoint button. I don't even use it anymore and the target is always "right on the money." It's more sensitive than the 250 and deeper detecting and target separation and isolation are great plus rapid response and recovery.

I don't see any huge difference between the two. It pinpoints as equally well as the 250 does, no better no worse. It also loves aluminum just like the 250. And I'm curious as to how you determined it's "deeper detecting" than the 250, outside of advertisement. What was the criteria for your tests which lead you to this? Response & recovery, again equal to the 250.

If someone wants a 250 with a DD coil, buy a 350. If you're going to expect some major difference with the 350 over the 250, you'll be disappointed. Don't misunderstand, I'm glad I got mine....but I bought it as a back-up and wanted a larger coil than my 250 came with, so the 350 was the best solution. That what what I wanted, and was what I got in return for my money.

I own 2 x Ace 250's, and intend to purchase the new DD coil for both when they are available. From what I have read, I hope to get slightly better depth, better target separation and more stability on badly mineralized ground. I could have sold the 250's and purchased the 350's but I was not sure about the enhanced iron range (I prefer to have more notches in the non ferrous range). If I was to be looking for low conductivity relics near to the iron range, I would search with no discrimination, and avoid missing targets that could jump into the discriminated notches.

For a first time buyer, I think the 350 would be a good investment. But if you already own a 250, I think buying the DD coil is the best option. I also believe that the very small frequency change on the 350, will make little to no difference on its performance over the 250 fitted with the DD coil.

I have a lot of experience with the 250, but have never owned or tried the 350. So I might be totally wrong, and these are just my opinions based on my experience and other users reviews.

Because you own both machines, it would be interesting to conduct a few air tests for comparison.

(With both machines set to the same sensitivity and with no discrimination)

Ace 250 with 6x9 VS Ace 350 with 6x9

Ace 250 with DD VS Ace 350 with DD

Have owned and used a 250 but do like the new coil of the 350 and its expanded range from what I have read...Sure to be one of your better lower priced units as the 250 in itself is a nice unit for the bucks..Honestly think timing was bad in also introducing AT pro which although more expensive will overshadow a fine product...

Be glad to Bob, I'll see if I can't get it done this weekend.

In your case the DD coil for your 250 would probably be the best choice as it would soup your 250 up quite a bit.

Bill

Thanks Smitty for offering to conduct the air tests, and thanks Bill for your reply. It will be very interesting to see the results, and should help existing 250 owners make the decision between coil upgrade and a new detector.

Don't know what you've been pinpointing with but the DD coil pinpoints a 100% better than the 250 concentric and is dead-on every time.

Bill

There is no doubt that just the coil upgrade would be a major improvement as it outperforms the standard 250 concentric considerably Unless you're a relic hunter the other two improvements on the 350 wouldn't matter that much in the general scheme of things.
