Once, many years ago,he opened his door to a terrified teenage girl whose car had broke down far from home.My mother brought the girl into our home, comforted her and called her parents and assured them that she was safe while my father and I fixed her car.I have now been married to that scared little girl for nearly 30 years.Strange things sometimes happen that change the course of a life.
and my man Dan, saw the yellow butterfly!

I was going up the Malahat, [a section of road on Vancouver Island] and I saw a car pulled over to the side of the road, distraught lady and 2 guys, in suits, looking at it.
I had to stop and ask what was wrong. One of the suits said that there was water in the gas. The lady said that the car just died and would not start. I asked her to turn it over; no go. I checked the spark and there was none. "Ah ha" says me, "your ignition module is gone. Just get a new one and put it in". Lady asks how we do that?
Okay, I drive back to Victoria, buy a new module and come back and put it in. The car will still not start. So now I have to dig deeper. I removed the distributor cap and in so doing, I touched the rotor, and it spun around. Not a good thing.
I tell her that the timing belt [this is a belt, not a chain] has broken and she has to get a new one. "Is this serious?" Oh , yeah!! it is .
She starts to get upset, tears and all, and says that she is going to be late to get her husband and child; they have very little money.
Off the parts store I go again, get a new belt and drive back. Did i mention that it was absolutely pouring out?? It was. So, under the car, flashlight in mouth, remove a lot of pieces from the motor, wipe tha water from my mouth and eyes, get up and set the top dead centre with a screwdiver, install the belt, and put it all back together. She turns it over and it fires right up.
"What do I owe you?" She asks. I told her that I could not take any money, since that is not why I did it. If I took money, it would take away from the deed that I did.
And my wife and I still, to this day, get christmas cards from this lovely couple.
All the best

So many lifes changed as a result of her car breaking down all those years ago....I guess she liked the idea of having someone around who could keep her car running.Hmmm....Maybe that is why she was attracted to me......And all these years I thought it was my rugged good looks and world class intelligence! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/oh.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":O">
(I often tell her if she had been driving a Chevy instead of that old ford,we would have never met! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">)

Changing a timing belt on the side of the road in the rain would for sure be a challenge.Like you,I will never accept payment for helping someone in a time of need.I have no interest in making a profit from someones misfortune. When payment is offered,I decline and tell them to someday return the favor to someone else they find that may need help.
Too many people these days are in to much of a hurry to bother with helping a stranger in need.Others are so greedy they won't do anything without figuring an angle to make a buck. The world would be a much better place if it had more caring unselfish people like you and so many others on this forum in it.

but not a surprise to me, knowing you my friend, worth a <img src="/metal/html/clap.gif" border=0 width=20 height=30 alt=":clap"> <img src="/metal/html/clap.gif" border=0 width=20 height=30 alt=":clap"> <img src="/metal/html/clap.gif" border=0 width=20 height=30 alt=":clap"> for sure! <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
