a coin sized target on the new simplex + detector?? I'm reading that its sounding off on deep targets by looses its ID capabilities..

I can only tell you what happened in my test garden. On my nickel, dimes and pennies 10 inches to 12 inches, it did report an audio response, but a weak one. There was no VDIs on these coins.
On my 11 inch quarter there was a VDI, not accurate but there was one.
I don't have shallower targets buried except for a dime between two nails and I can't remember how it did on that.
But just going around my yard the audio on different things in the ground was so loud in the headphones I had cut the volume almost off. My Equinox will give an ID on each target in my test garden with a louder audio response than the simplex. The VDIs on these targets are not 100 percent accurate but they are close enough. The Equinox should give better results for what it costs.
Again this is in my soil but I have seen a few videos that show the same results.
In my opinion the simplex is the best detector on the market under $650 and better than some that cost more for an all around detector. It really makes minlab detectors look over priced.
I sold the simplex to a friend.
And I do agree with some who say VDIs don't mean that much, but in really trashy sites they do to me. It is all site dependent.

Almost impossible to answer due to ground mineral content and the mode you select.

I have a test bed in the garden, and with a Deus and Nox 800 verses the Simplex they are all performing the same on my targets. For example on a large (3/4 inch silver coin) at 10 inches down, they all find the item but none of them show the ID. If anything the Nox in multi frequency is the poorest of the signals in terms of tone but they all get it and I would dig all three.

My view is the Simplex is on par with they other 2. I am detecting on wet muddy ground if this helps.

I have used a simplex only for 2 hunts to date , but from doing extensive tests indoors and digging a lot of targets outdoors my own personal opinion
is that the simplex really tries hard to VDI a number and does a good job of " kicking up" numbers on deep targets close to it's maximum depth , the VDI numbers are not be as accurate with targets
approaching the limits of detection though. The simplex gives VDI even on deep coins for sure. I dug an old school badge today at around 11 inches the numbers came up something like 50 to 60 and varying
a lot, but I dug anyway. The target would have to be really small and really deep to get no VDI number or a larger target well over a foot down. J

Has anyone done a test with the simplex with a pull tab and a penny, nickle, dime, and quarter? Here in texas, there are pull tabs everywhere. I was testing with my at pro with 5x8 coil by setting a pull tab on the ground with different individual coins one at a time about 3 inches apart. The pro would see the tab and coin if I swung right on top of them but as I raised my coil to 4 inches and higher, it would only see the pulltab. It could not see the nickel at all.

The Equinox and Xp Deus may have a little faster recovery on targets close together, but like you say all 3 detector are very close in the depth department.
