Snow on the beach and did some testing

Took four machines to the beach. There was snow all the way to the water. CZ-21, Excal, AT Pro and ETrac. I have video but im new to it. almost got the edit done. Short and sweat the ETrac and EXcal didn't do squat. I'm not new to the hobby and have many hours on the ET. I expected more. Same from the Excal.....nada. Bless the users who can do well with them. King of the day was the CZ hands down. AT was right there although has some issues. Video and more to come.

My intetion of the test were to setup and run my machines "ETrac and CZ the way i normally would when hunting. My CZ was set at Discrim 0 and manual GB. Sens about 8. I also used the auto tune and it worked well too. I can see its use on a large beach with few targets that are deep. I started out with the ring at 12 inches laying flat. None of the machines could hit it. Pulling it up inch by inch "now it's on edge". At 6 inches the CZ would sound off one way but not solid. This is a 14k small/thin women's band. The ETrac nor EXcal no mater what we did would hit it...Nada. And i was using the ET with the 12x15 SEF coil. That shocked me.

I often wondered why companies like Fisher hasn't come out with a new tech water detector. I found out why today.

In all fairness feel a Sov. or its its waterproof brother the exal also do well...As good as a Explorer is its main advantage is deep silver on land and not the best gold ring unit. Never used an AT pro but their first AT's the AT3 and 4 loved gold jewelry and worked well also in this enviroment as they had an internal saltwater switch which caused a depth loss...

Dan we had an Excal 1000 there and in the test. The depth just wasn't there. I think there are a couple reasons people clam the Excal is deeper. One is that they pinpointed poorly and the target has sunk farther into the hole. Second is the "Reverse hunting". Hunting in PP mode with the use of and external audio booster. Listening for a slight threshold change not a tone. You can't hunt NYC beaches that way. Not even in Auto tune on the CZ.

Looking forward to seeing the video.
Thanks for taking the time to test the units.

Can't wait to see the video EZ, I've always said, what works at one beach may not work at the next 20 miles down the road.

The Bigger the coil the smaller the target, like wise the small the coil the bigger the target..............

Interesting report. Thanks for making the effort.

I should mention one thing about the CZ series. If you should be hunting for small hammered silver coins from wrecks (there's lots been lost off the U.S. East Coast) they come out the sand looking almost perfect but thats because the salt etches the detail deeper into the coin. Hold them up to the light and you can see small pinpricks where the deepest detail has been eaten in to the point of breaking through.

Use a CZ 20/21 and the performance on these coins is really poor. Switch to a CZ5 or 6 and depth can be increased dramatically by using "land" mode. The drawback is that you have to try and recover the coin in one go as the dug hole sounds off masking where the coin is. Or spend time switching between modes and my CZ 6a didn't give the best result with just switching back and forth unless other adjustments were made.

The At Pro also doesn't like this type of coin. Not much does except the better pulse machines.

Thank you for sharing your test results with us, I often wondered if my old CZ 6a was deeper on Gold rings at the beach than my Explorer 11. Cant wait to see the video :beers:
