Hello everyone,
Thought the season was over a couple of weeks ago but no. Right now conditions are perfect. Ground is nice and wet, snow packed down all the plant material- don't think they will be growing back any time soon.
This is the first year that I haven't found an LC with the explorer, today headed out to a spot where I've found a few.
But... No LCs, no silver.
I hunted this area hard for a couple of years, I'm sure there is more but it sure ain't like a few years ago when the coins where flying out of the ground. This is the spot where I found my best coin spill- 2 LC, 2 Fatties, and a silver three cent peice. Lots of seated including three half-dimes.
I was thinking of Keith(IN) and all the nickel three cent coins he dug at his field of dreams. This site dates to about the same time. I tried digging all the low tinfoil hits that had any depth to them, Perhaps even come up with a $1 gold coin. WELL, LO AND BEHOLD.... I ended up digging lots of tinfoil.
Did manage a couple of IHs, one 1874 and one 1886

I thought the 1874 was the best find of the day but got home and cleaned them up. The 1886 is in real nice shape, probably EF or better. In 1886 they changed the Indian head design slightly, this is a type II. Look at the lowest feather on the 1874- it is pointed between the I and C, on the 1886 it is pointed between the C and A. Saw some on Ebay in worse shape that went for $150.
Other finds were 1902 V nickel, 1943 war nickel, and a 1875 2 Pfennig coin from Germany. That crusting is typical for the clay soil here. Some clean up, some are badly pitted.

Used the WOT the whole time. This is out in the country and was able to crank the sensitivity way up most of the time. Probably head back tomorrow or to another one of the sites I've been ignoring all year.
