I was off today, so I planned another snow hunt. I hit 3 snow hills that have seen a lot of traffic from snow boarders and tobogganers. I checked the weather, and posted it in the pic. It was a cold kind of day. I wore my long-johns, winter gloves and funny looking Russian spy hat. my weapon of choice was my CAMO ACE 250. When I got to my first hill, there was a nice layer of frost on all the trees, and I eventually got one on my mustache and beard too.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr!

Here's looking out my left front window driving to my first hill. There was a lot of crystallization from the high humidity. I put on a hot pack on the batteries before I left the house this morning, as I doubt that the batteries would have kept the CAMO ACE running for more then an hour in this type of weather.

Here's the reality finds! You got to dig the junk if you want to dig the good targets. Anyone who just bought a metal detector and has not gotten too many good targets yet, don't worry. We "ALL" dig plenty of junk. Some of the best hunters are the ones who dig nearly all of the targets. Most people don't post the junk, so you never really see much of it. It kind of gives you the impression that all the experienced guys dig nothing but good targets. That simply is just not so.

I always seem to get at least one piece of jewelry on a hunt. Today was no exception.....I found a neat copper (?) earring.

You crazy 'ol snow pirate. When it gets under 50 degrees F here I'm done and headed back to the crib. Some like it :hot:

Great hunt. I can't do what you do. It doesn't stay cold long enough for everybody to get use to the cold. They stay inside till it warms up. After 3 or 4 days of cold it warms up nicely. When I moved from Mi. to WV I sold my ice skates. I don't like indoor rinks and it rarely stays cold enough to skate outdoors. Wish you were here today. I have another vacant house to MD and it was in the 70's.

I wish I was there too  Funny, but I was doing some thinking today about life in general, and I thought of you and your family and my family. Then it occurred to me that there are some parallels with both of us. We both tend to hunt by ourselves a lot and both have a gifted child, love the outdoors and both also have a spiritual side to us to. I thought it was very interesting.

Your crazy alright, I have +3 degrees Centigrade.:detecting:
To darn cold at least for me! (your temperatures for hunting)
Keep up the good work John.:poke:
Regards,
Eu

Aha. The "snow pirate" bit is starting to make sense, now. :)

Cool pictures. I haven't seen snow in about eight years, and it's been almost twenty years since it last snowed here where I live. (SE Georgia, just north of the Florida line).

I did a snow hunt once when I lived in the North Carolina mountains, and it was blowin' blizzardlike conditions. Fortunately the ground had not yet frozen completely, although the snow was starting to pile up. I managed to dig four pennies out of the same hole: three Wheaties from 1919-20, followed by an 1899 Indian cent.

I had to keep the car running and dash back to it every ten minutes or so to thaw my hands out!

I have to tip my hat to a detectorist who can deal with the challenges of snow and ice and still gets out there to put the coil to the soil! Bravo!
