sniper coil

I went to where they have just torn down a old house with my sniper coil I hunted for about 2hrs.I would get a real good signal and when I would cut a plug I would loose the target. This happened about 10 times. My sen. was set on 4.Just wanting to know if anybody else is having this problem. Thanks Jason

What might have happened is that you may have run the coil over a tiny rusted piece of iron. When you dug it up, it disintegrated into just powder, which the coil couldn't read any more. That is quite common.

The ONLY thing I can think of is that you're either turning the target on it's side or:confused: flipping it out of the hole or moving it deeper and deeper.

here's my take on it,#1 i find small bits of tin foil just under the grass will give a real nice silver signal but when i cut the plug the target is "gone" not in the hole, not in the plug but when i put the plug back in the target reappears if this happens i leave it
#2 if a signal disappears after digging a plug i get -all- the loose dirt from outta the hole then check the dirt then the hole again usually if it"s a coin on edge you"ll find it in the dirt ya pulled outta the hole.
#3 ground mineralization some times makes a detector do this but usually the target signal will be a wide one.
#4 best thing you can do to minimize this happening is get a pin pointer .

just a thought were you running in a discrim mode ( not in all metal ) as some times a target will change target segments as the coil gets closer to it, this may also cause a target to "disappear".

Hey Lazy I was in coin mode.I had the same thing happen to me with the foil the other day at an old football field that I had got permission to hunt,I probaly left a bunch of goody's but I had to quit digging. Thanks Jason

What I found detecting on blue metal, was when I got a 3 foot wide pinpoint, I pass the coil over the area that I guessed the target to be in; as as it passed the point that my best guess was where the target was, I'd release then re hit it to detune it. It works a treat. It might take a couple of goes on a target, but you get a pretty accurate pinpoint.

Yeah, that's a thought. Did you have the coil brushing the ground and the sens. high? Next time try lifting the coil a couple of inches to recheck the signal.
