sniper coil or a DD coil?

I've been looking at maybe upgrading my coil on my 150 in the fall maybe or possibly waiting till next spring but I didn't know what was the better choice I plan on starting to hunt old foundations so all thoughts appreciated thanks

Hi,
A sniper coil is usually a very small coil used in very trashy areas.
Here concentric coils are better because their detection pattern is an inverted cone(V) as opposed to a DD coil where the detection pattern is broader(UU)
The broader detection pattern can mask a weak good signal amongst the trash since it cuts down the recovery time of your detector.
So it realy depends on the application of your coil.
Sniping amongst heavy trash a small concentric coil will usually find more good targets than a large DD coil, even though latter may detect deeper

skookum.

A sniper coil or as i call it a stubble buster coil as i can get in between stubble with it when the crops come off are usually about the 4-5'' range, although i dont own a 150 i do own a T2 which has a small 5'' coil that is a DD coil, must admit i do prefer DD coils over concentric personally.A sniper coil can also come in a concentric version as well, both have some good points and bad points but i feel that DD coils just have the edge especially on the non critical overlap of the coil and that is its biggest advantage, the concentric does pinpoint slightly better but most detector tend to come with DD coils.

Your question is a little mis-leading,are you asking a question about sniper coils which come in DD and concentric or a 'upgrade' which can come in both options again concentric or DD,as a general rule if you are doing old foundations then a small coil is often the coil that that most people use mainly due to the general rubbish that is in the area.

I guess I thought a sniper coil was different from a dd that's my newbie fault my bad but thank you for your comments

This might help you understand the differences of Concentric and DD coils. The Concentric search field is conical in all directions while the DD coil is not very wide front to rear but it does go the entire length of the coil.

There are pluses and minuses in each design but the DD coil is what is prefered by most manufacturers as the best overall coil to use in most hunting conditions. Good coverage at depth and requires less overlapping, good at target separation due to narrow search pattern and less ground noise.

On the other hand the Concentric is usually deeper in mild ground, more stable and easier pinpointing. A sniper coil is just a name for a small coil and they can come in either Concentric or DD. Hope this helps.
