sniper coil nets me a pocket spill and old shotgun shell

Goes4ever

New member
went to a real trashy park today for a short hunt with the sniper coil, and the first find was this old shotgun shell. This park is all wooded so maybe people used to hunt here??? Anyone have any info on the shell or it's age?

and I found this pocket spill all but one coin was in a a small pile, out in the middle of nowhere, not even up against a tree or anything

PETERS
(1887 to 1934, combined with Remington in 1934)

Go to my "Listick" post for a link to a shotgun shell ID site.
so your sayin it is anywhere from 1887 to 1934?
according to Shell ID

thanks for the site, I saved it to my fav's

that is cool because the park did not open until 1945, so it must have been a hunted woods before that!

Very nice bro!!! Hey, what is the newest date in your coin spill???? Great job on the finds:thumbup:!!!

The shotshell ID site is a great resource. Thanks for posting the link A-man. I neglected to do that.
There is nothing definitive you can say about the date on a shell, since they spanned such a wide range and could sit for a long time before being fired. But it helps.

Might check here:

I love trying to date relics. That is half the fun. The other half is finding them. The internet is a great tool. If I can't figure something out, I post it on the What is it forum.

And below is what you can make out of those ...."shotgun shell rings"

Your shell is pretty old too. According to the shotshell ID page it's an old
Peters, which ran from 1887 to 1934. Yours seems to be one of the older
versions, but it's hard to tell for sure. IE: it's #7 on their list..

So probably from around 1900 + - or so I bet..
I may start collecting those things.. Shot shells are one thing I do
run across out in the sticks..
