Sniper Coil for PRO XL

Mike T

Member
I just received a 5.5" Ferrett Hothead coil for my Pro XL, I never knew they existed but its in XLNT condition so I took a chance. Anybody have experience with this coil, it has an open hole center opposed to 6" Whites, is it DD?
Any info will be appreciated as I'm really curious.
Oh, also are the German coils onEbay for Whites XLT and XL Pro any good? Mike

Ferret coils are a version of the Hot Head coils. Some of them are labeled High Energy Hot Head and some have the picture of an orange ferret on them. I'm not sure who the manufacturer is. But they are marketed in the US by Kellyco. If yours has a hole in the middle, you can almost bet it is a concentric coil.
I can't find the German coils you mentioned, that are on ebay. The only non-OEM coils I see are those made by DeTech, sold as Excelerator coils. Again, these are marketed in the US by Kellyco. I do not believe, however, that there are any Excelerator coils currently marketed for the 6.59 kHz Whites detectors. HH Randy

The "Hot Head" coils have been made for Kellyco by various manufacturers through the years, but I believe the open-center coil you're referring to was made for them by Discovery Electronics.

I have owned several of them, preferring them on the slow-sweep Classic series but also using them on both XLT's and XL Pro's with great success afield!

White's 'Snooper' coil (the Blue Max 350) is their 4" coil, and the Blue Max 600/5.3 Black Max/5.3 BullsEye coils from White's are 6

Thanks Monte and Digger, I am waiting for a non rain day to go try the coil out.
I keep seeing the German Coils on Ebay, its a Uzman DD-3505
Ebay#200056205995
I see them listed under Searchcoils, Whites. They sure look interesting, German design futuristic sorta.
