Snagged a 10 inch HF coil!!

Don't have it yet..but I'm sure there are a lot of goodies out there shaking in fear right now! :minelab:

I hope so too-I wanted it for the beach mainly. I figure it's cheaper than buying a dedicated beach detector right now! I'll use it in other places too just to see how it does of course. First thing I plan to do with it is air test on a dummy cache I created. I'm not sure it will get more depth than the 5x10 but I'm hopeful!

Pyledriver, I also just now have a round 10.5" HF DD coming in the mail, along with a 5x10" as well. Keep us posted on the results of your tests please. I will also air test when I get it. Too cold and to much snow to do otherwise. I think Donut has a 10.5" HF DD. Yes it is good for the beach. It is more sensitive and deeper on small gold jewellery than the round 10.5" MF DD.

9 Concentric
7.5 kHz Coil
All X-TERRA series detectors
Water proof
The standard X-TERRA coil for good reason good depth, great target separation and accurate pin-pointing the perfect coin hunting coil.

9 Concentric
18.75 kHz Coil

X-TERRA 50, 70, 305, 505 and 705 detectors
Water proof
Has same properties as the 7.5kHz version, but more sensitive to low conductive targets(gold). Also performs well when detecting for jewellery on ocean beaches.

10 x 5 Double-D
18.75 kHz Coil
X-TERRA 50, 70, 305, 505 and 705 detectors
Water resistant
This coil has great sensitivity, good ground coverage, and is easy to use in rough terrain. An ideal gold hunting coil, that also performs well for beach work.

10 Round Double-D
7.5 kHz Coil
All X-TERRA series detectors
Water resistant
For improved depth and ground coverage over the standard 9 Concentric, this is the coil to use. It also performs well in mineralised soils.

10 Round Double-D
18.75 kHz Coil

X-TERRA 50, 70, 305, 505 and 705 detectors
Water resistant (not Water proof)
An ideal coil for beach work, and open areas, this coil offers good depth and sensitivity, and great stability in mineralised soils and beaches.

I use mine 10.5 HF mainly for the beach and large fields. I like it that i can cover more area faster. It is a little heavy to swing but I seem to get use to it as i do have a strong forearm and wrist to handle the extra weight. I have been able to find small ear ring stubs down 8 to 10 inch. And some really small things the size of a clipped finger nail. It is sensitive.

I can't wait! '10 is already slated to be a very busy year for me. I'll take this coil to the beach after spring break in March, have some Oklahoma trips in the works for a little panning and cache hunting, somewhere in there a New Mexico prospecting trip..and I STILL have not managed to get out to that old farmhouse in east Texas! If I can get all these trips done without getting shot by the wife it'll be a miracle! If I find a purdy gold ring on the spring break trip I'll be giving it to her. IF MOMMA AIN'T HAPPY, AIN'T NOBODY HAPPY..LOL!

Well I put the coil on yesterday and went for a spin in the backyard. I have a lot of iron trash in my backyard! Some detectors have had trouble with it but my xterra never has...till now! I found that I could FORGET about prospecting mode-there was no place in the yard I could find that was clean enough to ground balance! Now I've run a Tesoro Silver umax, Garrett Scorpion, and an ACE 250 through that yard along with my Xterra. I know there are some nails and iron junk and generally know where those targets are. That 10.5 let me know that there was MUCH more in that yard than I ever realized!! I'm going to have to experiment with my sensitivity settings too. This coil seems to be a different critter than the others...

I did drag my coffee container of pennies out to the yard. It's over 10#! I never got the X to run as smooth as I wanted but did pass the coil over the 'cache' in what mostly amounted to an air test. I couldn't find my yardstick (duh, I have a 3 year old), but I was quite pleased at the 2+ foot depth that I could estimate. I suspect this coil will do more than that however. I'll have to work on building my test garden! I usually pretty much ignore the yard in the winter..it's full of 'landmines' now (2 dogs) and I don't feel like digging in it! Looks like when I start to work in the yard again I need to include some time with the 6" so I can clean out one good area. I think maybe I'll buy some junk silver and bury it in a mason jar as well.

Pyledriver, remember the 10.5" HF DD is not designed to be a yard hunting coil in iron trash. It does not work as well in iron simply because it is a HF coil. The 9" HF Concentric coil would also have some fits in heavy iron trash. BUT the 9" LF Concentric coil would work better in iron trash for clad, silver, and copper coin yard hunting, so would the 10.5" MF DD, and also the stock coil.

The 6" HF DD works because of its very narrow (knife edge and more narrow than the 5x10" HF DD) signal width and also with a very small footprint, but Randy(Digger) and everyone else would much prefer a 6" LF DD for coin hunting in trash if one was made. An attempt was made to get Minelab to make one but they refused to do it. Maybe a 10.5" LF DD should also be made.

I have a 10.5" HF DD in the mail and should be here next week. This coil is for gold(low conductive). Gold jewellery hunting especially at the beach where it is very easy to dig-sift sand, and also for gold prospecting where targets are fewer and further between them. Yes it can be used for but it is NOT especially designed for clad, silver, and copper coin yard hunting. It may drive you crazy because it is so sensitive to iron(low conductive), also very small junk targets, going deeper for these. BUT the benefit of this coil is it deeper and more sensitive to very small gold.

Well, it's cool because I bought it for beach hunting-I really just wanted to see how it would do. I'll be heading out to some tot-lots shortly and plan to use it for a little while just because I CAN and because I'll have the other coils with me if/when the big 10 causes me fits! I'm kinda laughing at myself because I have the high freq covered with all these coils! I need to work on a low freq now and maybe even another 10.5 but in medium. Having all these coils to choose from is probably a bad thing..I'm like a kid in a candy store with this detector!! :minelab: :super:

Check out my most recient post. CW Camp, carpet of nails, no problem for the 18.75..........MO
