I traded for a Deleon recently and as usual, I took it out to see if it worked properly. I was absolutely surprised at this one.... it was "hot as a firecracker." I was finding drops at 8" in hard packed clay and getting a good repeatable signal at that.... I either used AM in the heavy brush or 0 discrimination in the more open areas.... I agree the D smokes some have not much good to say about the DeLeon but I think it is a great machine easy to use and goes deep maybe we should keep it our secret and let the others figure it out on their own. There are several D users that are really enjoying their machines.............keep using it, it only gets better!
I have a Cortes, which as everyone knows, has the same circuitry. I always read comments how these machines aren't deep, and you're better off with a beep and dig machine. But I think the secret of these machines is to keep the disc low or at 0 and use the TID to determine the target. What I found with my non-TID Tesoros is that when you turn the disc up, you loose depth. I found a lot of goodies with my Tejon, and my Golden, but not at the depths I'm finding with my Cortes. I get a lot of signals detecting like Richard is with his Deleon, and it takes a while to cover ground, but I'm finding an impressive amount of older coins between 8 and 10 inches down. Take a look at this picture. This school was built in the 20's and has never been detected as far as I can tell. I will also attach a picture of my favorite find so far. This is a silver dime found at 7".
In an environment with less trash, and a greater likelyhood of lost gold rings, I would dig more signals, but for now I'm pretty pleased with my results.

i am just days away from getting my deleon. it was 41 and sunny today, i almost cried cause i havent ordered it yet. patience.. i will order it soon, it will arrive at my door, and together we will hunt till my legs collapse, then i will crawl and hunt til i cant take anymore

the deleon is a awesome machine for sure the 4 i've owned have really surprised me wished i had another but in due time

I bought a "smokin" DeLeon from Richard two years ago this coming August. Been a great machine and is definitely the deepest of my Tesoros - both in the ground (not actual test, just field experience) and air test using the same coils. Most of the ground I hunt seems to be mild to moderate and the DeLeon has become my favorite park, fair ground machine. I do get some chatter when trying the 10X12 spider, but as I prefer the 8X9 or the 7" concentric that's no problem for me. I suppose if I wanted to use that coil very much I could send it in and have it tuned. The TID is as accurate as any I've seen and I don't mind the lumping of a copper penny, dime and other silver under the one notch and 95 id number. If it reads there I'm digging regardless. However, with use, I've gotten to where I can generally ID a quarter by the tone even though it's lumped under the 95 ID. All in all I've been very pleased with the DeLeon and am glad I added it to my arsenal.

Richard your post brings up something most of us old Tesoro users know but many newbies may not.
You can make any Tesoro "HOT" by returning the entire detector (with coil) to Tesoro to have them adjust the machine to the coil. However, always call first before sending in your machine.
Usually the stock coil is close to right but many aren't. When ever one buys a new coil for any Tesoro, one should send the machine in to have that coil precisely matched to the machine (not sort of matched). But again, call and chat with a knowledgeable person at Tesoro first.
I have an older Cutlass II uMax that's at least 2 inches deeper than the Silver uMax machines I've owned. But the Cutlass and Silver should be the same. So what's up? Easy, my Cutlass is properily adjusted internally.
People just don't understand that the coil is an antenna and the antenna must be matched as closely as possible to the electronics. See, this is why Nautilus made their detectors so one can balance the coil via external knobs. A properily balanced coil can mean double the depth.
