Smartfind disc question...

If I go to Select and X out nails,is there any advantage to doing this as compared to just leaving it alone??

If you X out nails you are just discriminating them out. If you leave it blank then the Explorer does not pay any attention to them. So if they fall in an area that is not dicsed out on your pattern them you will get a signal from them. HH Butch

Im not sure I understand what your saying, do you mean with a cleared screen? if so yeah then your just discing out nails, the upper most part of the left screen,, anything you X out will be rejected

thats why I dug a small bent nail at around 3-4 inches today while using the smartfind disc pattern with nails neither accepted or rejected. Now, Im wondering if there was a coin in with or close to the nail, would I get a better signal on the coin with the nail rejected or not??

Hi Jim, I was using the preset smartfind screen with nails neither accepted or rejected on the Select page.I dug a small bent nail at 3-4 inches. No big deal,Im wondering if its better to reject the nail in Select. If a coin is nearby would the coin sound off better with the nail rejected or not?I guess experimenting will show one way or the other:)))

you shouldn't get a signal, but it will cancel the threshold as well just like in iron mask going over iron. The explorer takes longer to recover from a rejected target to a good target than if you did not reject it at all. So your chances of losing a good target under or near by the discriminated item will be greater. Most people will only discriminate out a item if the site your in has a ton of them and they are not located near other good targets on the smart screen. Like you stated the best way to find out is to experiment as conditions are always diffrent. hope this makes sense. HH, Miles

thanks Miles.I may try iron mask in the cleaner areas.I did that for a few minutes on weds morning.

Am "new".... having trouble in that my explorer will not hold the disc "x" with nails.... any time I come back to that menu, the nail is the only one of the selections that appears "clear" ....other options retain the "x" or the checkmark. Is something wrong with my machine?? Thanks in advance for any comments !!

In regard to above post.. Do I have a problem with my machine?? Thanks again.
