Smaller coil question for a Explorer SE PRO

I have found some really trashy areas in the wet salt sand and was curious to would a 7 inch round coil help ,or should i just get the 5inch excelerator coil?I am new to the Explorer but have already found some nice rings with the factory coil in these areas, and they are full of iron, nails and multible junk targets.

You should definitely find more with a smaller coil.

5.5" Sunray is a killer coil as is the 6" Excelerator.

Midsized coils such as the 8" Sunray and 6 x 8 SEF coils are also excellent at picking through trash.

For extreme trash though I would go with one of the smaller ones.

You will probably be amazed at what you've missed with the bigger ones.

thanks Bryce,i seen one on line for sale they say its a 7 inch dd coil, its used so i was triyng to save a little money, I bought the explorer pro new,the coil they call the JOEY, is it also for the trashy areas? thanks ...steve

Totally agree with Bryce on this one, I went back over an area I had done with my pro coil and changed to the 6 x 8 SEF coil and was
amazed at all the stuff that came shining through.

This is going to be one of those IMHO. Ive done a lot of beach hunting, now for a park id pick a smaller coil.... but on a beach i still like the pro or SEF. There maybe junk, but not nearly the minerals to process so picking out the good tones just isnt as difficult and doesnt require a smaller coil. Move slower and you might want to switch to Ferr open up you IM to say 30 if iron starts giving you a problem. You are digging most anything on a beach and its not hard digging. It aint always about taking your detector for a walk, but you would like to cover a lot of the beach and the larger coil just works best. MOST jewerly isnt going to be down a foot and too much sensitivity isnt necessary on a beach. Too often i see people have their detector sensitivity maxed out. When you do that it creates a larger halo around the coil that gives those tiny false signals because it picks up trash close to the coil which requires you to find those signals and center them. Tones also once centered if they are close to the surface may not even sound the same as when they are first picked up. If you run a realistic sensitivity you hits those targets under the coil and get decent depth especially on sand and cover a lot of land. Find your lanes and work them slowly.
