Small spear point (Archaic Age)

New member
Found this the other day while hunting one of my favorite spots. It is a small socket spear point from the Archaic Age. I had an archaeologist look at it and he dated it to be 3000 -- 6000 years old. When I hold it in my hand I try to imagine what kind of man made this ,maybe a great hunter? or maybe a fierce warrior ? one can only wonder. One thing is for sure the last person to hold this point in his hand before me was the maker 3000---6000 years ago. It is made from copper and is 2.25. inches long. This is truly my best find ever

Nice! Great find! Rare piece. You must have about dropped you detector when you found it! Was it a water or dry land find?

Kind Regards,
Steve

I was pretty excited, couldn't wait to get home and start googling. It was on dry ground, high on a bluff and about 9" deep on a rock surface.

Hello,
I would be sifting the other material around it. It may be part of a cache.

Best,
Steve

Yes I plan on going back there again, been there before. It's only 5 minutes from my house.

I found one , and showed the state arceologyst and got it fully documented for historys sake as well they let me keep it i did later sell it for 400.00 and i did not get it from a mound i never dig in mounds one of my buddys dug an indian grave whith a full pot and a elk antler tool for tanning hides and a big spear point and a necklace made of shells i turned him in boy was the arceologys pissed as well as the indian comunity i found my point in the creek far from any mound anything historical should always be documented for the greater public good and if they take it then they take it but they never took mine

That is super cool. The historical finds just get my heartbeat up:)

I'm glad you didn't think it was junk. Did you know what you had when you dug it?

Yes I knew it right away just didn't know how old it was.
