Small Gold Is SUCH A Sweet Sound On An Excalibur!

And though it's a meager ring, it's enough to keep the old gold streak going for a 4th hunt. :)

Not much of a hunt, as we are in bad need of a re-seeding...which I believe is on tap for today. But I did manage to pull a tiny 14K gold ring out of the shallow surf with what appears to be a blue sapphire in it. I have some family coming in from out of town today and I have a feeling it may be a perfect fit on my 6 year old niece, so it will probably have a home. Looking forward to the next AM low tide...should be good.

Sapphire rings. I only have a few that I have found over the years. My Excal came yesterday. Waiting for my stright shaft my buddy Chuck In Cape Coral made me to get here. I only hope the excal can live up to my CZ20. Chuck likes his Excal better then his CZ20 so we will see. Again nice ring. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

Jerry, I think you'll like the Excal a lot. It's a very different animal from the CZ, that's for sure. The variable tones are something that I could never do without now.

I recommend:

Sensitivity at about 11 O'Clock

Minimum discrimination (but in disc mode)

Slight threshold buzz

75% volume

Dig it all until you get used to the sounds. With experience you will KNOW when you have gold, a bottle cap, a quarter, a penny, etc. with a very high rate of accuracy. Of course with bubbled pennies things get a little cloudy and I still dig most of them. But it's nice to know how hard I want to work for a target when I hear that unmistakable low tone that tells me it's probably gold.

Oh, I would also recommend testing it out with a variety of targets to get an idea for the tones and how it "hits" prior to hitting the beach. It will shorten the curve quite a bit.
