Small coil for scuba

Has anybody ever changed the coil on their 1280 or tiger shark from the 8" to something smaller like a 6"? If so, did you lose any depth capability with the smaller coil? I have been snorkelling alot lately with the 8" 1280 and when fanning the bottom I can see where a smaller coil would fit inside the hole better than the 8". I dont mind opening up the inards to change the coil but at the same time I dont want to lose any depth either as I hunt for deep older items. Any thoughts???

I have a Tiger Shark and an Excalibur. I am sorting out what pulse machine to get. Get Clyves book on Pulse Power. Then the question is if you are after old deep things why haven't you chosen somebody's pulse machine to use rather than the TS? Don't get me wrong. I love the TS. It's just the physics of the electronics in the machine types. Pulse machines just go deeper. There are trade offs for that depth gain but if I was concentrating my hunting to the old deep stuff, I'd have a pulse in my arsenal. Jim

I use an excal 1000 and have a excal 800 for a back up, the 1000 is in for repairs and I sure miss it! The smaller coil on the 800 does not work near as well, get a lot of faint signals that don't return easily, the larger coil works better in almost every condition except for areas with ALLOT of iron.
