Small coil for F75

RonNH

New member
I'm at the point where I'll keep my machine for a while and am looking into a small coil as I hunt a lot of cellar holes. I can't find very much on what's available....there's the 6x9(?) and I heard there is a smaller elliptical coil. I'm even thinking about the 10" stock F70 coil (for fields, not cellars) as I heard that does quite well on the 75 and gives a crisper tone and a little better depth. Any help would be appreciated, I hate to spend hard earned money for something that's not worth it. Thanks, Ron

6" round is ok..but really nothing special.. It seperates, but so does the standard DD

The small coil for the F 75 imho is a great addition for searching among the trash. It is nice and light, can get in and around tight places and has very good depth for a small coil. I dug 2 wheaties this morning that were a true 7 and 8" and while they were a little scratchy, both were repeatable from all directions. HH jim tn

there is a tiny eliptical concentric coil.............but I seldom use it..and I hunt a LOT of cellar holes. Its only virtue is its size......as you can squeeze it into smaller places. BUT......it doesnt get the separation the stock coil gets. It does get great depth.....but I want SEPARATION in cellar holes......as they are usually lousy with small iron. I'd LOVE a tiny DD............but so far no word on that.
Word on the street is that there will be a small DD eventually.....but not soon enough for me. :help:
You can buy the little concentric..but I think you'll find you'll just go back to the stock coil after you try it.............. Streak!
Heck....................maybe I'll sell ya mine!!!!

I may just stick to my stock coil and take another look at the 10" F70 coil as a future addition. I'm surprised the small coils aren't DD, especially being elliptical in shape. The stock coil does separate well, but like Streak said, it doesn't fit into real small spaces like around a stone wall. Ron

I never used a small coil befor but this little think rocks.I was pulling out muskeetballs 6 to 8 in.and got a dime which was down around 8- 9 in.down from a well beaten site.I'll never do a cellar hole without it now.Great in the trashy parts.

I'm not trying to be a smartA&& when I ask this ok. But, when you're saying 6 to 8" are you saying what the pinpoint read or what you measured independent of the machine? On my machine the stock 11" is off by 2-3" and if I put the 10" concentric on its off by even more. I almost hate to see how much its going to be off when I put the small coil I just bought, on the machine.

The small coil will hit cents and dimes at a true 7-9" (my deepest in the field digs with it) with decent audio and vdi. Although the audio at 8-9" seems to break up slightly and the vdi will bounce some, the signal is repeatable from most directions. Both, though, are good enough to dig. As for the depth reading, at those depths it can be off as much as 3-4". I dug a wheatie yesterday that was an actual 8", but the the depth reading reflected 11-12". Knowing this helps, but one still has to be careful digging so as not to damage a recovery. So far, I have not. HH jim tn

Vou testar pela primeira vez o meu F75 em uma praia aqui em Barra do Garças Brasil.
O pessoal aqui usa bobina pequena tipo 5x8" para prospecção de ouro de pepitas.

I just listed one in the classifieds here at a good price.

I bought one because everyone kept going on about how good they were and that they didn't lose any depth from the stock F-75 coil. I didn't use mine but about 3-4 times on actual hunts but I can tell you on my machines it drops off quite a bit from the stock coil. My ground must be a lot worse than some of the guys hunting. One of the sites I took it was an old football field they are demolishing and trash it thrown here and there. I went there for some old coins. I decided to cherry pick a little bit for some wheat cents and silver dimes and would kinda risk some goodies by going for the depth readings by that coil. I would get faint signals that would register 5+ inches and dig them, and they be pre-1982 memorial cents that read as dimes or simply clad dimes, but they would just be 3-4 inches deep, while they would read 5-8 inches in depth and sound deep via audio as well. It still doesn't drop off as much as small coils on other machines I've used but it doesn't keep the stock coil depth either. Well at least not in this red iron dirt here.

BUT......it doesnt get the separation the stock coil gets.......Streak

Hi Streak, and All....

Read your comment on the small concentric, and felt it was worth replying to.

I Respectfully think that the small coil DOES get better separation. To prove it to myself, I've just done a few definite tests between the two.

I do not think that it is possible to make such an assessment in the field involving 'real' situations because target's displacements are by definition undefined, and virtually unconfirmable once they've been dug.

My tests revealed subtle improvements involving not only horizontal separation but also the better vertical lift/separation response.

I appreciate that if your field work hasn't revealed any noticeable benefits, then you are justified in your observations, but I think that they are based on unprovable situations rather than fact.

I rarely use my small coil simply because I've not discovered many sites that demands such tactics.

It takes a disciplined detectorist to revert to a smaller coil...........and I don't think I'm such a guy.........Best regards to all..........MattR.UK.
