Small Coil and the X70

RLOH

Well-known member
I had the perfect, junky spot to check out my new 6 inch dd coil. I am always amazed at what we miss with the bigger coils. I hunted a well used park-picnic area that I have been to many times and I found 42 coins, with 4 being wheats and one sterling silver womens ring. The wheats and ring were 5 to 6 inches deep and all but one had a piece of junk real close. I have noticed one thing when using the patterns. The signals are not real crisp like they are in all metal. Even the coin signals were scratchy. Even in these trash infested spots, I use all metal most of the time. The noise keeps me on my toes. I have tried small coils with the many detectors I have owned and up until now, I had always thought a Tejon or Vaquero with a 5.75 inch coil was the best. That was until recently. The x 70 with this dd is a true precision accessory. I now have a complete setup that I have total confidence when I go hunting. R.L.

Glad you found the 6-inch DD to be (another) winner. Honestly, for my soil, either small coil performs well. I use the DD most as it has been the most fruitful. As I've said many times, the more you find with any coil, the more you will like it. The more you like it, the more you use it. And the more you use it, the more you will find with it. etc. etc. etc...... HH Randy

I agree with the 6 inch dd coil. I can hunt next to the steel supports in the tot lots. Just like my Ace 250 with the sniper coil. I have had some small 4 inch coils on detectors that will beep 12 inches from a steel support even at the lowest sens setting. Yes the small coil on the Xterras are a great combo. Plus you can cover some ground with it.

The 6" DD coil will run wide open on the sensitivity in the areas that I detect. It sure cures the frustration in the areas with a lot of junk. It's kinda like my American Express card, I never leave home without it. :detecting:

I've been using the 6" DD coil on my X-Terra 50 and hunting in all metal as well and I don't use the notch . I am experiencing all the good things that are being said about this coil .

RL, Sounds like you have found a keeper in the X70 and its many coil choices. I too have become very attached to my X70 and have the 6" concentric, 6X10 high freq,, 9" 3kHz, and of course the stock coil. Just this past Sunday I was going over an old country school site with the 6" and pulled a 1886 seated dime at about the 6" depth range. As I only search for older coins this was my first silver for the year but a Darn good find in my book. I compared the 6" DD and the 6" concentric earlier this year and determined in my moderately low mineralized soil that there was not much if any difference in the two, so traded my 6" DD for the 6X10 high freq, which works very well in searching corn and bean rows. It allows me to cover ground a bit more faster and is easy to swing in the crop stubble. Now if I do get into a highly trashy area I will put on the 6", simply to help in separation.
Glad you are enjoying the X70.

Amen to that! As a new user after reading the FAQ's I just wrote a post on my last finds with the 6" I would have walked right over or never detected this area with my XL pro Good finds freind and in finding this coin I know know that I'm in an area with a lot of old coin potential! Grant
