Howdy--
Last week I was driving around my usual hunting area searching for some new ground to swing my V3i over. I must have passed by this lot over 100 times in the last few years. For some reason it just never looked good. Well, it was either give this lot a try or re-hunt a lot that I had hunted several times. What the heck.
After ground balancing, about 10 feet from my truck I eyeballed a 1955 Jefferson. A few feet from there the fun began. I started digging wheat cents just below the surface and to make a long story short in a 6' by 6' area I ended up digging 142 wheat cents, 7 Buffalo nickles, 30 silver coins 16 non-silver Jefferson's dated from 1940-1957 and a few other odds & ends. I hunted it first with the 5.3 coil and then with the 4X6 Shooter. I hunted the surrounding area with the 6X10 coil and picked up a few stragglers. In nearly 30 years of detecting, I've never dug so many coins in such a small area. There was broken glass in the hole so I'm guessing that there was a jar of coins that was smashed when the old house was removed. I hope that everyone who reads this has the experience and the thrill of digging a similar (or better) cache. Best of luck and...
